An Inspired Chat with Tracy Venair of NYC

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tracy Venair. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Tracy, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Makeup! When I do makeup, I lose track of time. Makeup is more than an application, it’s an experience. Each detail brings balance, confidence, and renewal, helping my clients and myself reconnect with the beauty and strength within! The process allows me to enter a creative flow where time feels suspended. In those moments, I’m not just creating a look, I’m finding myself again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, My name is Tracy know as “Made Up by Tracy”. I’m a licensed professional hair & makeup artist with over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry. My passion lies in creating timeless yet modern hair and makeup looks that celebrate individuality and confidence. From flawless bridal glam to bold editorial statements, I transform beauty into art with every brushstroke.

Over the years, my artistry has been featured in publications such as Harper’s Bazaar and on fashion week runways, but what drives me most is making an impact both behind the chair and within my community. I’ve had the privilege of serving through events such as NYPD Prom Impact, Youth Events, Sickle Cell Awareness, Church Collaborations, and Autism Awareness initiatives, where beauty became a bridge to empowerment and self-expression.

Looking ahead, my vision is to expand my artistry globally! Bringing beauty, culture, and empowerment to diverse communities around the world.

Every face tells a story, and I’m here to help amplify it.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed my worth rested in how I looked. I doubted my inner strength and feared I would never discover a purpose in life. Now I stand in a new truth: I am beautiful inside and out, my strength runs as deep as my mind and soul, and my life is filled with meaning and purpose I create each day.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
For a long time, I chased an image that wasn’t mine—trying to secure an office job, get into a major college, and impress my family and peers. I wanted so badly to be taken seriously that I lost myself in the process. When I failed, I fell into deep depression, questioning my own existence. But that failure became a turning point. I decided to stop fighting for others’ approval and start fighting for my own happiness and self-acceptance. In that decision, I began to find myself again.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Ha! I could quote a few. “Beauty has one standard”, “You need the latest products to be valuable”, “Aging is something to fight”, “Trends define your beauty”, “Perfection is possible (and necessary)” and so on. NONE OF IT IS TRUE!!!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I know I’m out of my depth when my anxiety kicks in. I’ve learned to stop dismissing it as just ‘irrational fear.’ Instead, I listen because often it’s my body signaling that something isn’t right, that I need to pause, protect my peace, or rethink my approach. My anxiety has become less of an enemy and more of a messenger
