We’re looking forward to introducing you to Wilfred La Salle . Check out our conversation below.
Wilfred, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am building and revolutionizing independent filmmaking. I’m simply an ordinary man from the Bronx who grew up in the projects and decided to chase a dream. I didn’t ask for permission. I pursued it without money, without investors, without sponsors, and without any financial backing. Since starting this journey in 2019, I’ve made seven films in seven years, and that’s something I’m truly proud of.
I secured a distribution deal with Fox for my sixth film The Security Guard, which finally put me on the map. That film gained massive media attention because it tackled the issue of mass shootings, and it opened doors for my work to be seen on a larger scale. No one sees the hard work that goes into the process of making a film. The sacrifices that are made. Giving up family time, leisure time that you just can’t get back. You have to outwork yourself and everyone else that wants what you have.
I am the independent filmmaker who creates powerful stories about social issues that really matter. My films look like they were made with a $90 million budget, but they’re built on nothing but passion and perseverance. What I’m building is unique it’s one man, one vision, and one mission: to be the greatest independent filmmaker in the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Wilfred La Salle, and I am creating the biggest revolution in the independent film scene. I am the greatest independent filmmaker in the world not because of privilege, connections, or film school, but because I’ve done the impossible with nothing.
I founded my production company, La Salle Productions, in 2019, and from day one, we have been building the revolution. With no film school, no college, no investors, and no sponsors, I built this from the ground up through passion, grit, and relentless hard work.
Since then, I’ve created films that not only resonate deeply with audiences but also give my cast and crew opportunities to be seen on national networks and TV. I’ve proven that you don’t need millions of dollars to make high-quality films that matter you need vision, dedication, and the courage to do the impossible.
This is much more than filmmaking. It’s one man, one company, one mission: to continue leading the revolution in independent cinema.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
What made me feel powerful was my relentless drive to get on all these national news networks without any PR team behind me. It was just one man, driven by belief, who made it happen and I did. I broke barriers and landed coverage on ABC, NBC, PIX11, BronxNet, Bronx Times, Good Day New York every major network. That’s when I felt the most powerful, because the message behind what I’m doing became more than just filmmaking it became a movement in itself.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No, I never wanted to give up because that would mean the end of my dream. And dreams don’t quit people do. I refuse to give up on mine. I set out to accomplish something, and I will see it through until it’s done.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me really depends on who you ask. I always describe myself as an ordinary man doing extraordinary things. Some people might see me as a public figure because I’m constantly on TV, but at the end of the day, I’m just a human being, a passionate person chasing a dream and building something that truly matters.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say about me when I’m gone that Wilfred La Salle was the revolution the indie film industry needed. That I showed the world what one man could do with nothing. I want to be remembered as someone who inspired others to understand that you can’t take no for an answer and that if something doesn’t exist, you must create it.
