Loren Lewin’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Loren Lewin. Check out our conversation below.

Loren, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Most mornings start the same way: My dog Mylo and I walk to our local coffee shop. He’s basically the star of the neighborhood—everyone knows him and stops to say hi while I grab my coffee. That little ritual keeps me grounded and reminds me why I started Companion Candles in the first place: creating a safe, joyful home environment for both people and their pets. Once we’re back, I settle in, check emails, and dive into work, usually tackling the bigger priorities while I’m fresh and focused.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Loren Lewin, and I’m the founder and CEO of Companion Candles, the first premium candle brand created to be truly safe for pets. The idea was inspired by my rescue dog, Mylo—after realizing how many hidden toxins are in traditional home fragrance and how they can impact our pets’ health, I wanted to build something better. Our candles are made without the 250+ common toxins found in fragrance, use a clean coconut-soy wax blend, and feature wood wicks for a cozy burn. Beyond creating safe and beautiful products, we give back to animal rescues and shelters across the country—because our mission has always been about more than just candles, it’s about community. Right now, we’re focused on expanding into more retail doors and launching exciting collaborations that continue to spread the message: home fragrance should be as safe as it is beautiful.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My husband. His work ethic is unlike anything I’ve ever seen—when he sets his mind to something, he makes it happen. Watching the way he commits, follows through, and never wavers has been such an inspiration for me as a founder. He constantly reminds me that grit and consistency are just as important as vision.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me resilience in a way success never could. Success feels good, but it doesn’t test you. It was the hard seasons—the setbacks, the no’s, the moments I wasn’t sure how I’d keep going—that forced me to dig deeper, get resourceful, and really discover what I’m capable of. Those experiences gave me perspective and grit, and they made the wins so much more meaningful.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d probably say I care most about creating a safe, joyful life for the people (and pets) I love. My friends know how much Mylo means to me and how deeply I value loyalty, kindness, and showing up for my community. They’d also say I’m passionate about building things with purpose—whether it’s my business or my relationships—and that I pour my heart into everything I do.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I led with kindness and purpose — that I built something that truly made life better, especially for the most vulnerable. I’d love for my story to be one of creating safe, beautiful spaces for people and their pets, of giving back, and of showing that business can be both successful and deeply compassionate. Most of all, I hope they say I inspired them to believe they could do the same in their own way.
