We recently had the chance to connect with Carolyn Demps and have shared our conversation below.
Carolyn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Going back on the scene, going out and enjoying live music, live entertainment which has always had a soft spot in my heart. It is nothing like witnessing great musicians and vocalist vibe out together to make exciting sounds of amazong music.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My Name is Carolyn Demps proud owner of Urban 95 Soul Internet Radio Station as well as Xclusiv 4U Entertainment an Artist Management/Promotion Company that works with Indie Artists to manage their careers which will help to lead them and their music down the right path. By giving guidance and making proper business decisions for and with the artists it helps to lead their music to Station’s like Urban 95 Soul where they are heard all over the world. Because of my passion for Entertainment it has lead me to meet amazing people in the industry and to also work with some amazing show hosts, DJ’s and Artists on my Station which makes it all sound effortless and very professional.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of being powerful is when I was offered a management position at my very first job in a very busy restaurant at the age of 16 years old. It was a great feeling to know that older adults had faith and believed in me at such a young age. To have that level of trust has definitely taken me a long way. That moment in life told me that I could do anything I put my mind to, study hard for and to follow my dreams and goals.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
At a young age I learned to not hide my pain and to always show up with a smile because that moto always made me feel powerful which was hard to explain then but I have been able to use it to my advantage in life because no one knew what I was thinking and never really saw my pain. As a private person, you may see me get upset about something or if someone treated me wrong I may show a sign of disappointment but by moving on and not dwelling on things I cannot change made me the strong person I am today which causes me to be able to hide pain well and to show it in power.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My belief and project that I am committed to and definitely working on today is to bring back REAL Soulful music like I grew up on with real singing, amazing vocals and good vibes. Truly believe the industry go so far removed from what we once called great music and I will work on getting it heard again no matter how long it takes. This is one of the main reasons why I decided to own a radio station to keep this dream a reality.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Definitely feel most at peace in the comfort of my home listening to great music, making business decisions and life choices that are best for me. When I am in my comfort zone is when I make better life decisions and not have to worry about to much interference pulling me to think and do things differently. Peace has always been the energy I live by.
