We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brenda Daly. Check out our conversation below.
Brenda, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I love this question. I am chasing the fulfillment of my ultimate creativity. I am working on my next feature film, looking for financing, and working in production, wearing whatever hat I have been given. Whether a PA, producer, or actor. etc. What would happen if I stopped? Honestly, I don’t think I could because creating things is my passion. But I would just chill out more and enjoy my life in a different way. Travel more. Go bother my children and their families. 🙂
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Brenda Daly, the creative force behind MamaBird Productions—a home for bold stories and independent filmmaking.
I’m a Southern California native, wife, and proud mom of three who has been in love with storytelling since my college days studying filmmaking, singing, and theater arts.
From acting to producing to directing, I’ve worn nearly every hat on set, and I thrive on bringing projects to the finish line.
Through MamaBird Productions, I create award-winning full-length films, shorts, and engaging social content that celebrate women and give a voice to untold stories.
I assist aspiring filmmakers, foodies, and fellow dreamers who love movies, creativity, and a good laugh.
I love to create enchant and elevate—one story at a time. I am working on raising funds for my next feature film, ” A Little Town Forgotten,” A horror western. Logline is… A family’s road trip spirals into a nightmare when they stumble upon a mysterious, isolated town where time stands still, danger lurks in every shadow, and escape becomes a fight for survival against the town’s dark secrets and supernatural forces. Also finishing editing a comedy I started 5 years ago. M.O.M. SQUAD. Logline… What would happen if the wrong women were tasked to save the world?
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Wow, tough one! I see myself as an underdog a bit. I was never really picked 1st for anything, but my mom would tell me I had all the talent I needed to do what I wanted. I just needed to focus on the ones that I was the most passionate about. If things went sideways because someone else’s opinions didn’t align with mine, then walk away and do it myself. I don’t always think that I fit in because I want to accomplish what makes me happy. I don’t believe that what works for one will work for all. I also ask a lot of uncomfortable questions right away because I am always looking to improve on what I am doing, or making sure that I fit the circumstances. I believe that it’s important for people I work with or for to be happy and feel heard.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
On my comedy M.O.M. SQUAD, things were going on in the world. COVID and I lost a lead actress because of unrest in her country, Russia. Then rewrite in a different lead to another character, and she became my best friend and supporter, but unfortunately, she died of Cancer. I kept waiting for something to happen, so I put the project aside, thinking it would never get finished. And then technology is helping to finish it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to fit in a box to be there. Politics, weight, and nationality. Such BS. We are all capable of achieving what we want; we just have to be willing to jump the hurdles and belive we can.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying. Keep going.
