An Inspired Chat with Elizabeth Clar of Mid Town, Santa Cruz

We recently had the chance to connect with Elizabeth Clar and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I feel joy every time I get to create in my studio. However, recently I found joy when my best friend and I threw the first dinner party at my house. Being around like minded amazing women really inspired me to continue to strive to be the best version of myself. In addition, the community and support of each other really shined through and brought me joy,

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Elizabeth is the creative force behind Vintage Fusion Jewelry, transforming bold patterns, textures, and thrifted treasures into modern wearable art. Her pieces embody a free-spirited elegance– designed for those who want jewelry that feels both timeless and unapologetically original.
In addition, Elizabeth repairs and redesigns heirloom vintage jewelry and designs bridal accessories.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
One of my childhood teachers saw my artistic talent before I saw it myself. She encouraged me and believed in my talent. She even told my mom that I was the best artist in the class.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Resilience, grace and perseverance. I have had to reinvent myself through many career paths and through the death of a spouse at a young age. These experiences have made me stronger and helped me give myself grace and also work hard to pursue my fashion design goals

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say that family and friends really matter to me. They would say that I prefer experiences and quality time over material things. In addition, they would affirm my passion and love for creating art and that this is essential to my well being.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. I have always had my creative passion in the background. Sometimes more and sometimes less depending on my corporate job, husbands illness and other obligations. Now is my time to shine and really lean into all of my creativity. I know I was born to create and make a difference in peoples lives through my repair and redesign program. It makes me light up when I modernize vintage pieces for gifting for future generations. I also love seeing my pieces on models, in magazines and out in the wild.
