Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jami Olds

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jami Olds. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Jami, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Tonight during my family session I made friends with a 9 year old that I hadn’t seen in some years. He made me laugh because he was so forthcoming about his life and so open to chatting about it. At one point he told me that two great minds think alike. I think he’s right!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jami, of Jami O. Photo. I am mainly a wedding and engagement photographer but I often shoot family sessions and senior photos. I feel so lucky for my patron clients because I get to know them and their family. It’s so rewarding watching the kids grow into sweet little humans. I feel very connected to my clients and they are honestly like friends.

I’m currently working on rebranding a little bit and focus on my wedding and engagement clients and provide them with fine art portrait photography. I always like to chat with them about their vision so that I can make sure to capture that, but also capture all the pure, candid moments. My focus is having a fun and stress free day and coming out with photos that make them feel their absolute best and relive that special day.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I was very shy and felt I could not communicate in large groups of people. I hated public speaking and I would try to talk my way out of any kind of presentation, even in college. As an adult, I just grew into my personality and felt at ease with sharing the person I was with whoever would receive it. I can talk to anyone and I love to help make people smile.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I would say that I have a slight fear of being irrelevant. With all the different social media platforms and all the new trends, it can be very hard to keep up. I have actually signed up for a course in marketing etc so that I can continue to stay relevant and provide an amazing service for my clients for years to come.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I am always unapologetically myself. I’ve learned that there is no one better to be. I have a very big heart and I always strive to make my clients feel valued and beautiful. It just so happens that my clients have the most beauty inside and I really enjoy bringing that out and showing it to them. I feel very blessed that I can get along with almost anyone and show them a good time.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that they had so much fun and were able to be themselves when in my presence. Of course I also hope that they will talk about my love for my craft and that it eas also top notch! Who wouldn’t?
