We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dianny Pena. Check out our conversation below.
Dianny, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Fitness and anime have been bringing me the most joy lately. Training keeps me disciplined and motivated, and anime just fuels my imagination and gives me that extra push when I need it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Dianny Peña I run Dkluxxe , where I specialize in braiding styles that not only look good but also make people feel confident and cared for. Braiding has always been more than just hair to me it’s a way to express creativity, connect with people, and help them feel their best. I love being able to bring someone’s vision to life, whether it’s a protective style, something bold, or just a fresh look that makes them smile. Right now, I’m focused on growing my brand and creating a welcoming space where every client feels valued and leaves loving their look.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I’d say Jax Camili has taught me the most about work. She shown me a lot when it comes to business like how to make flyers, come up with new ideas, and look at things in a different way. It means a lot to have someone like that around, because they remind me that this isn’t just about braiding hair, it’s about building something bigger.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The first thing I’d do is hug my younger self and just let them feel safe for a moment. I’d tell them, Everything is going to be okay. The pain, the confusion, and the doubts you carry right now won’t last forever. One day you’ll see that every challenge was shaping you into someone stronger, softer, and wiser. Trust yourself, keep your heart open, and know that you are worthy of love and success even on the days you don’t feel it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends, they’d probably say that family, community, and being real are what matter most to me. I’ve always believed that the connections we build with people are the most important part of life. That’s why I treat my clients like family too because every person who trusts me with their hair is more than just a client, they’re someone I get to connect with, encourage, and support. I love creating a space where people feel seen and valued, and where authenticity is celebrated. At the end of the day, it’s about lifting each other up, building community, and caring about what you do.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I think about the story I’d want people to tell about me when I’m gone, it’s not just about the braids I created, it’s about the space I built. I want people to remember that I gave them comfort and a place to fully be themselves. For so many of my clients, sitting in my chair isn’t just about getting their hair done. It’s hours of connection, honesty, and release. My work has always been about more than braiding hair. It’s about making people feel good about themselves and giving them a safe space where they could open up without fear of judgment. I don’t run in the same circles as most of my clients, so what they share with me stays with me. Over the years, those hours of braiding have turned into moments of therapy, laughter, tears, and growth. If anything, I hope my legacy is that I created beauty both on the outside and the inside by giving people a place to feel seen, heard, and cared for.
