We’re looking forward to introducing you to RaeAnn Serra. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning RaeAnn, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is the at the forefront of everything. No matter what you’re doing or where you’re going, it all starts with your intention. Intelligence can be learned, energy can be created, but your integrity is who you are.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Rae- I’m a photographer, stylist, and editor and I’m working on moving up to more directive roles within this industry. I genuinely enjoy what I do, which may sound obvious but not everyone is lucky enough to say that. Everybody in this field has a uniqueness to them, and my goal is to be in a position where I can help bring that out of others.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that made me feel like I wasn’t good enough to be where I am. There was always this voice telling me that I didn’t belong next to all of these talented photographers, that I was a fraud and everybody would soon find out. I think this part of me served its purpose- it made me work exceptionally hard and it also kept me very grounded. But now I need silence some of that self-doubt so that I can feel confident making bigger steps forward in my life and in my career.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think there are a few answers to this question- but a big one was the genuine fear of things just not working out. The thought of “Well, what if I don’t figure this out and everything falls apart? What if I end up failing and embarrassing myself?” I know it’s common to have a fear of failure, I think that probably keeps a lot of us from moving forward. For me it is the fear of having to start over, especially because I never thought about a backup plan or what I would do if I couldn’t get my career going.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think a big lie or misconception is that you need the best and newest gear to stand out. There are so many targeted ads (even from other photographers on instagram) trying to convince you that you need the most expensive equipment to land clients. Sometimes it can certainly help, but if you’re determined you can make things work with whatever you’ve got.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I tend to feel most at peace when im near an animal. Working with animals really could have been my other path, maybe that’s something I will regret one day.
