An Inspired Chat with Karine Gomez

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Karine Gomez. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Karine, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I wake up at 5:45am. I like to have some me time in the morning.
Then I have some quality time with my son before he goes to school.
Around 7:30am I start to work, I either do office work, prepare costume for upcoming events, create costumes brainstorm new ideas or I do aerial and stilts training sessions.
I try to go to the gym at least 3 times a week.
Around 1pm I prepare the diner and my son’s lunch for the next day.
I pick up my son from school then we head to one of his activities.
Weekends are full with archery or hockey tournaments for my son and lots of events.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Karine Gomez, Born Karine Perron comes to USA after a long international career of competing and performing. Karine grew up as a synchronized swimmer and was not only Canadian National Champion but also the winner of the Athlete of the Year and a member of the World Championship Team in 1997. After her 10 year competitive years of synchronized swimming Karine became a performer in European companies. She worked in the first Water world Circus show, Crescend’O, in Disneyland Paris as a synchronized swimmer, aerialist and fire spitting. When the show closed Disneyland Paris offered Karine the main character position in the parade as a flying aerialist. Her hard work paid off and she got offered solo performances on aerial hoop and trapeze in Disney Village.
During her performer career Karine always kept training and took classes to maintain and get more skills.
She did the well known Theatre School, Cours Peyran-Lacroix in Paris and trained with the best coaches in aerial.
At the same time she also worked for the French famous themed Park Asterix. She was part of different show and performed as a stunt woman, synchronized swimming, comedian and magician assistant. Her stage Directors were the parents of the Oscar winner Marion Cotillard. She also toured with in Europe with Les Farfadais and Holiday on ice. Karine is an original member of the aquatic Cirque du Soleil show “O” and has been featured as a stunt woman in films such as Colombiana. Morocco, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, France, Austria, Germany, Canada, USA and Mexico are countries where Karine performed! Karine came to San Antonio to perform in the Sea World show Azul as a synchronized swimmer, aerialist, and was the synchronized swimming captain from 2011-2015. During that time she also became a great gymnastics team coach. Many of her athletes became state champion and regional champion and some of them made it to nationals. In 2019 she produced the first Contemporary Show in Acapulco, Los 4 Elementos. Not only she produced it but was the writer, choreographer, Director and also performed in it.
We are back in San Antonio since 2022 and Aqua Acro has expanded a lot.
We now have about a hundred events per year. We do birthday parties, quinceañera, weddings, corporate events, grand opening ceremonies and more. We travel all over Texas.
We also have a residency with Elsewhere where you can see our performers every Fridays and Saturdays. Beginning of October we will have our second residency at Elsewhere Too, a brand new location with a Ferris wheel, we are beyond excited to be part of this amazing project.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I thought I was not talented at all. I really thought that if I was winning a competition or a price it’s because I was lucky. So I always worked a lot to compensate the fact that I was not talented.
I did a lot of work on myself and now I can see I am a talented person in what I do but I also think that it came with all the work I have done.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are worth it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no.
I think people see me as a strong woman, very organized and who knows what she is doing.
The truth is that I constantly doubt myself. Always self questioning. I go through chaotic phases before I get everything together.
I learn from everyone, everyday, so no I don’t always know what I am doing but I do it my best.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I do good things for people I can help.
