Meet Daphney Poyser

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daphney Poyser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Daphney, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
If I am honest, I am always working on my confidence and self-esteem levels, it is not something that comes easy for me but I am great at masking my struggle with being in the foreground. I am a behind the scenes type of person and feel very comfortable under the radar. The first year of the business, I tried as hard as I could to stay away from the camera but then I shortly realized that in order to do the people that we serve real justice, I had to be all in and even though it’s not my preference, I am continuing to put myself out there and to spread the message that everyone deserves to have love and happy and healthy relationships.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the CEO and owner of Fern Connections, which is a LGBTQIA+ & Ally focused matchmaking, events, date planning and date and relationship coaching business that services people across the country. We are the only business of it’s kind in the country and we get to work with the most unique clients in this space. For me, the best part of my work is continuing to come up with creative and exciting ways to provide the best service to our clients and the communities that we do business with.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tenacity, resilience and hope are the qualities that keep me inspired to continue to do the best job that I can everyday. I feel like that mother who just wants the best for her kids and will do whatever it takes to make things happen for them — that’s how I feel about my clients. It’s a kind of drive that keeps me getting up everyday, no matter what the day may hold. I want to be there for the people that I feel very strongly about, and to support the community, my community that I have been part of for as long as I can remember.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed or upset, I don’t tend to say a lot. I have this 24 hour rule that I follow to help me stay level headed and to not make my own or other people’s situations worse. I also believe that a good night’s sleep helps so much to calm my spirits and that when I wake the next day things will always be better, and at the very least I would have gotten a good night’s sleep.
