An Inspired Chat with Lu Camy of Ithaca, NY

We recently had the chance to connect with Lu Camy and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lu , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Before getting out of bed, I listen to an audio prayer (from the Soul Synergy Oracle Deck). One prayer, in particular, has been helping me deeply — the Prayer to Open the Heart. This is the one I practice most often. Tuning into my heart before starting the day sets the tone and helps me remain in a gentle and kind state.

Sometimes, I also sit in front of my altar and pray to the Divine Mother, the Great Mother. In the past, my meditation practices were more rigid and mechanical, often tied to a specific religion or restrictive system. But in recent months, I’ve discovered a more fluid way of attuning to myself and the Divine — and through it, I’ve experienced miracles. After that, I often get coffee and go outside with my dog. I also have a yoga practice that I every other day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a hypnotist and soul guide. Over the years, I have gathered information, insights, and ideas from my sessions with hundreds of people, and I transformed them into an Oracle Deck. There was also a time when I was channeling messages and wisdom from my higher self to my family members. I combined both of these sources into this deck, and it has become a tool for personal growth and self-counseling.

I love the idea of viewing my conversations and insights through the lens of wisdom and spiritual psychology. The feedback has been incredibly encouraging — people have written to me saying that the messages and cards are having a deep and profound impact on their lives.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
A therapist once told me, “You are a genius.” I was in a period of deep sadness and hopelessness. I watched some friends doing and writing amazing things and I felt small and incapable. He was definitely using hypnotic techniques and speaking directly to my subconscious — that part of me that needed to believe in myself. The way he said it was so impactful, truthful, charismatic, and empowering that I remember feeling excited and ready to give voice to my creative spirit.

He often encouraged me to write my ideas down and to focus on my work. He redirected me, and it was life-changing. His voice and words stayed with me. It wasn’t about believing I was better than anyone else — it was the awareness that we all have gifts and skills that, when nurtured and fed, can flourish.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
It took me five years to complete the writing and illustrations of the Soul Synergy Oracle Deck. Yes, there was a time when I almost gave up. Along the way, I met others who also had to set their creative projects aside. Life simply gets in the way — and until a creative project is out in the world, it isn’t a source of income. It requires risk, time, and dedication. Carving out that time was difficult, not to mention the financial costs and investments.

At one point, it became almost impossible to juggle everything, so I retreated to a cabin in the woods. In that solitude, what began as an artistic endeavor turned into a spiritual journey. I learned so much about myself.

The reason I didn’t give up was simple: the pain of making sacrifices was not greater than the bitterness I would feel if I never brought this creation into form.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’ve struggled a little with the perception that, as a spiritual teacher and guide, my life must always be peaceful — as if I don’t experience insecurities, fears, or anger. The truth is, while working, I choose to act with the highest integrity and show up for others in the healthiest way I can. Yet, I also have aspects of my personality that I am still healing and transforming.

I don’t claim to be perfect. What I believe, however, is that focusing on the teachings and higher wisdom is far more important than centering my personal dramas. At times, I do share some of my struggles, but always with the awareness that I don’t need to be an open book in order to deliver what I feel is truly meaningful.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The deck was born from conversations that sparked deep insights, excitement, and transformation. When I am gone, I hope these conversations will continue.
