Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Taylor Smith

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Taylor Smith. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Taylor, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
That’s a great question. All the time. Anything done hastily is usually more prone to crumble. There’s nothing wrong with taking your time, I usually pray about things or seek wise council from those whom I trust before moving forward. In instances when I’ve moved to quickly to decide something I usually end up wishing I would have given it more thought. Its good to be intentional and thoughtful.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure, I’m a guitarist, singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, born and raised in Kinston, North Carolina now based out of Kansas City. I’ve released three albums under my name. I usually work with a trio for live shows and work with various other groups. I began playing professionally around the age of 17 and I’ve been working at this thing ever since. Through all of the ups and downs, the hills and the valleys, the Lord always provides. I feel blessed to do what I do and I strive to continually live in gratitude and enjoy making my art and to continue to grow daily, I give all praise to God the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ, my aim is to please Him in all I do.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Why should I listen to what the world says? I’m who God created me to be. I serve God, not the world. We live in a broken world full of all kinds of problems. If anyone feels they are listening to what the world tells them to be, hopefully they’ll be encouraged by this scripture: “Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2. Let the reader understand.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Wait until you see what God is going to do. Keep chasing after Him with all you have.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Indeed. What you see is what you get. I don’t try to be anything that I’m not. I just try to continue being a better me. Most of the work is done in private but hopefully it is evident when I step into public spaces.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
“The end of the matter, all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13
