We recently had the chance to connect with Pauline Sala and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pauline, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A couple recent moments I am very proud of are signing to amazing new modeling agencies in different cities and letting go my old agency because I outgrew then and realized I was not their priority.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Pauline, I am a Frenchie in the US.
After going to acting school fro 10 years, I fell in love with skateboarding and making content. Eventually , I got scouted at the Venice beach skatepark by 3 different clients to model. Skateboarding led me to my job, I am a full time print and commercial model and also a content creator! ( I also met my husband at the skatepark)
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was back when I was 17 years old.
For a little bit of context, I was 6 the first time I visited the US and something clicked in me, I fell in love with the US and started teaching myself how to speak English. I worked very hard in school knowing that after I graduate I would be able to finally move to the US. At 17 years old (I was already fluent in English by then), I had to take the TOEFL test in order to be able to be accepted in an American College. I remember feeling so powerful walking into the room to take the test, the room was full of French college students who were all older than me! Being the youngest in the room was a little intimidating at first but looking back, I felt so powerful. Hard work really pays off!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self , I would tell her to keep believing in her dreams and to not let all the bullies at school affect her!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me IS the real Me!
I used to be so ashamed of who I was and very self conscious so I would doubt myself and let people walk all over me.
But when I realized that this is MY life and I have control over it, I started being 100% my genuine self and not caring about what other people think of me!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in Nature! It makes me realize how little we are and how beautiful the world is!
