An Inspired Chat with Mishila Ashlyn of Colorado

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mishila Ashlyn. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Mishila, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of my professional work as an ophthalmic technician, I find the most joy in spending quality time with my daughter. Those moments are truly meaningful and grounding for me. I pursue photography on the side, which provides a creative outlet and allows me to capture and preserve special memories. Both roles enrich my life in different but complementary ways.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mishila Ashlyn, I’m a mom, dog mom and, a lover of redbull. I work as an ophthalmic technician, where I have the privilege of helping patients care for their vision every day. Alongside my career in healthcare, I also pursue photography, which has grown from a passion into a creative outlet and business. Photography allows me to capture meaningful moments for others, while also giving me a space to express myself artistically. My goal is to create images that don’t just look beautiful, but that also preserve the emotions and memories behind them, something meaningful for my clients to hold onto for years to come. Right now, I’m excited about building my photography brand further and continuing to connect with people through both healthcare and art.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I still remember being in 5th grade and entering the 10th annual Women’s Poetry Contest at CSU Pueblo. When I heard my name called for first place, I felt powerful for the first time, not because of the award itself, but because I realized my voice and creativity could truly resonate with others. That moment taught me the value of expression, and it’s a lesson that continues to influence me today, both in my photography and in the way I connect with people.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self. Your voice matters in your words, your art and your choices. Never forget how much light you bring simply by being yourself.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I would say I admire Jay Shetty for his character, not his power. He consistently emphasizes wisdom, empathy, and self-awareness, inspiring people to live intentionally and treat others with kindness. His influence comes from the integrity of his message and the way he lives it, rather than from status or authority.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
What I’d regret not doing is traveling. I haven’t been able to recently, but I know how much I’d miss the chance to explore new places, meet different people, step out of my comfort zone and, create memories that last a lifetime.
