Temilola Okunola of Northtown Mall on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Temilola Okunola and have shared our conversation below.

Temilola, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Like never before I am being called to bet it all on myself. I began my healing journey in June 2025 as a recovering people pleaser. This journey was very stressful for me because it was a huge mentality switch. The realization that I could actually spend the rest of my life choosing myself, prioritizing my success, and only surrounding myself with people that support the woman I am becoming. I began my journey of becoming HER, the girl who stands up for herself, protects her peace, prioritizes her education, business, family, hobbies, and genuine connections.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Temilola Okunola, or as the world knows me, $INZU—a luxury Ankara print clothing brand bursting with the vibrant soul of Lagos, Nigeria! Picture this: I was just 18, armed with nothing but a sample of waist beads my aunt sent from Nigeria. Fast forward to my 18th birthday, my dad gifted me $1,000, and BAM! $INZU was born. We dove headfirst into Ankara print swimsuits, unleashed the ADUNNI Collection, and after a whirlwind of restocks, collection drops, university fashion shows, viral videos, and a whole lot of love from our community, $INZU became a global sensation, a taste of Africa’s magic.

This isn’t just clothing; it’s wearable art that turns heads and stops traffic. After five years of pouring my heart & soul (and thousands of dollars!) into this dream, I’m taking $INZU to Northtown Mall for our first official physical shop. And guess what? On October 10th, my brother and I became store owners, ready to launch on October 17th. Get ready to experience the $INZU vibe in person!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My family… growing up, a very big identity of self was instilled in me, the type that gave a sense of “my Life is not a mistake”. From the different affirmations of wealth my father made sure to include in all 7 of my names to the constant reminder from my siblings, parents and mentors that Temi you can do bigger. I eventually realized that some of us are born with a clear purpose from God. The key for me was learning to say no to anything that didn’t align with my values and staying true to my beliefs. My father invested wholeheartedly in me—financially, as a mentor, and with guidance—but God didn’t stop there; He also gave me a brother who believes in me, my vision, goals, and future. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I am not an independent woman; I am the foundation of the Okunola family’s generational wealth and legacy. I am a symbol of hope that God’s blessings in the lives of my parents and my community have only just begun.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, I face moments where I feel like giving up almost every day—nothing about this journey is easy. But then I remember, this is my passion, my creation. Every time I scroll through my timeline and see $INZU featured in my customers’ videos, whether it’s a bonnet, swimsuit, or waistbeads, it reignites my drive. Or sometimes, it’s as simple as seeing my family use my products daily, from the sponges to bonnets and waistbeads… everyone genuinely loves $INZU. It’s new, it’s modernized Ankara print fashion, and it’s making a real impact.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
No, it’s a taste of it. My real life is a movie that I get to live everyday. It is all real because nothing is prepped or planned, just recording and capturing moments as I go. It amazes me that I have so much free will and my brain generates so many productive ways to use it, so much so I capture a good idea of it on all my social media platforms from posting vlogs, book reviews, and fashion videos on YouTube to funny, humorous, and viral videos on TikTok then real time videos on Snapchat and the best quality pictures of myself for Instagram. I’m the definition of Mrs. Do it ALL. I believe when I look back at the life I lived I will be able to say I did not let any opportunities pass me by. You can keep up with me on socials @Temilov3 on all platforms and @sinzu.world for business.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I trust that, in time, my true self will be revealed to all who have judged me along the way. My hope is that my name, ideas, vision, and creations will be passionately discussed for generations to come. It is my vision that $INZU will be as legendary as Gucci, Dior, and Louis Vuitton, truly becoming Africa’s premier designer brand. So shall it be… Amen.
