We’re looking forward to introducing you to Morgan De Witt. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Morgan, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many small and local businesses are struggling in our current economy. I have spoken with other managers, founders and owners, and while none will outright admit any financial difficulties, I can sense that there is a concern we are all having regarding the futures of our companies and whether they will succeed or close.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Salty Pop is an Florida based and beach influenced popcorn brand that creates original recipes and turns them into gourmet popcorns. We aspire to make a variety of flavors, each with Non-GMO kernels, coconut oil, and without artificial dyes, with an option for everyone and their diet.
After a year of redesigning and perfecting our packaging, we are excited to share our new small bags.
Made with the beach life in mind, these sunset color inspired, wavy striped, resealable zipper bags are the perfect snack for your next trip to the beach.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad. From as early as I can remember, his work ethic, discipline, and desire to succeed were (and are to this day) the most influential examples I had of being an entrepreneur. His choices and support, played a major role in who I am, and how I operate Salty Pop today.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
For as long as I can remember I measured my self worth by my level of success. If I felt I was not achieving a constant level of upward motion, in both my business and personal life, I would mentally beat myself up.
In the last year I have learned that, success is not linear, and that one of the most meaningful things in life, is not success, but rather what you learned from a situation.
Realizing this has changed my mind from the mentality of “I cannot fail” to, “I am excited to see what I learn on the other side of this, no matter the outcome.”
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I reflect on history and cultural relevance before integrating anything new into my brand. Authenticity and originality are two major things I prioritize, whilst also being constantly inspired, challenged and educated. With a combination of these ideas, I can decide whether something new is a temporary trend, or a redirection for the industry.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe to a certain extent, I was born to do this. This brand and everything in it has been an extension of my creativity (with lots of guidance, inspiration and professional advice), and no matter the future outcome of Salty Pop, I have chased a dream, given it my all, and learned more than I ever could have from working in a 9-5.
Now I highly doubt I was born to make popcorn, but the things I have created, the people I have met, and the knowledge I have gained, was most certainly for a reason, and Salty Pop was meant to exist.
