An Inspired Chat with Lisa Hammett of DFW Metroplex

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lisa Hammett. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I am very committed to my morning routine. I find, if I do not adhere to this routine my day does not go as well.

I wakeup between 5:30-6:00am. I listen to Braintap meditations and do PQ Reps (Positive Intelligence micro-meditations that engage the senses) while I’m still in bed. I then go for an hour walk. When I return and have my coffee and breakfast, I do devotional reading and recite positive affirmations. I then take a shower and am usually at my desk between 9-9:30am. I spend an hour on emails and social posts. The remainder of my day is devoted to coaching sessions, networking meetings, podcast interviews, presentation prep, follow-up, etc.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a transformational keynote and TEDx speaker, an international best-selling author, a Positive Intelligence PQ Certified Coach & Trainer, a wellness expert, and a champion for obliterating burnout in healthcare and HR.

I spent 26 years as a leader in the corporate retail sector, I reached burnout in 2005. It was the lowest point in my life. I was grossly overweight, suffering from chronic migraines and digestive issues. My marriage was strained. In a moment of desperation, I left a long-term career, at a high salary, without an exit strategy, which resulted in bankruptcy.

After a lot of self-development, including a transformative health journey, where I lost 65 pounds, I became a wellness coach for one of the largest, global wellness companies. For 11 years, I coached thousands of members, empowering them to make sustainable, healthy lifestyle changes-mentally, physically, and emotionally.

In 2020 I launched my Success Coaching practice, to help individuals who were chronically stressed, burned out, and unhealthy. I obtained my Life Coaching credentials and became certified in Positive Intelligence mental fitness. I now serve leaders in healthcare and HR who are burned out and in desperate need of work/life harmony. This often involves a job transition.

As a keynote speaker and trainer, I speak to audiences in healthcare and HR on stress management, burnout prevention, work/life harmony, the importance of community, leadership development, and goal achievement.

I am the author of the best-selling From Burnout to Best Life series. My second book, From Burnout to Best Life, Sustainable Strategies for a Healthy Mind & Body, reached best-seller status in September 2025.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I am adopted. My adopted parents grew up in the great depression. They were unable to have children of their own, so they adopted me later in life.

My mother was very judgmental and controlling, particularly when it came to my friendships. She liked very few of my friends and made it clear who I could and could not spend time with. I was unable to date until I was a senior in high school. My parents had to interview my date and his parents before I was allowed to go anywhere.

For most of my teenage years I walked on eggshells around my mother. If I said or did the wrong thing, she would shut me out, ignoring me for days. My dad played the mediator. He was always kind and easy going. I was close to my dad. This made my mother insanely jealous. I developed anxiety and people pleasing tendencies to keep my mother happy. My mother’s mood swings were epic. She would be kind and loving one minute and the next she would ignore me. It was very confusing. It wasn’t until after my mother passed that I learned from my mother’s cousin that her family had a history of mental illness.

Now that I’m in the mental health space, I recognize that my mother did the best she could with severe mental illness. She was undiagnosed. I believe now that she had bipolar disorder.

It’s taken a lot of self-development to recognize that my mother’s behavior was due to mental illness and not my actions. With that said, I definitely wasn’t a perfect child. I pushed boundaries and got into trouble like any normal teenager.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Since starting my business, there have been times when I questioned if I was cut out to be an entrepreneur. When you’re scaling a business there are peaks and valleys. When things are great it’s exciting and energizing. When things are slow, it can be frustrating and stressful.

Multiple times I’ve considered going back into a corporate position. Each time I started to go down that path, I was blessed with a new client or a speaking/training opportunity. I have a strong faith. I believe this is God’s way of telling me to be patient and have faith. I continue to receive positive validation from audience feedback, coaching clients, and from individuals who have read my books. I’m definitely using my God given talents to serve others. In my opinion, that’s truly what life’s about.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is definitely the real me. I’m very transparent about my strengths and areas of opportunity. I’m far from perfect. I believe that when we show up as our true, authentic self, we attract the right people.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people feel that I’ve positively impacted their life in some small way, whether it’s through a personal connection, my messaging, books, speaking, or coaching. My desire is to leave others feeling better about themselves and empowered to live a life aligned with their values, passions and strengths. By doing so, they will inspire others to do the same.
