Story & Lesson Highlights with Kathleen Flanagan of Chesapeake Beach, MD

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kathleen Flanagan. Check out our conversation below.

Kathleen, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts with walking my dog and tidying up my house. Then I’m either on the road earlier for showings or meetings or working from home. Either way, I’m getting right into work! Then I will usually cook dinner and relax before heading to bed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kathleen Flanagan. I’ve been a real estate agent at RE/MAX One since 2018. I’m 30 years old and love to hike, walk with my dog and hangout with friends and family. I used to work at the law office affiliated with my brokerage and started getting curious about real estate. Then I took the course and I’ve been loving it since.

My brand is “Homes with Kathleen Flanagan”. On social media, I have a specific logo, color palette and everything is very tied to my brand. However, my brand is also how I treat people and move in my business. I love being there for special moments and being able to advocate for my clients.

I love meeting new agents and being able to have negotiations. I think real estate can be overwhelming but ultimately it’s filled with so many experiences and great people that it’s all worth it.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents are the true reason I’m so dedicated to my work and my clients. Both of my parents have worked extremely hard for years and have retired. Not only have they worked hard but they’ve worked for several companies in different fields. They’ve been able to share these experiences with me and help me with where I can improve. They are also great at preparing for interviews, time management and managing a lot of separate tasks. Seeing their work ethic and how much they enjoyed it really motivated me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Real estate is a very hard job. I’ve definitely considered giving up before. When the market gets tough or other things come into play, it can be hard to see the way out. However, every time I think about giving up I think about what I would do. There is never a time when I want to do anything else other than real estate and that’s important. So typically I will step back, take a moment and see what is making me feel that way. If I can identify it then I can adjust my process or daily schedule to relieve some of that stress.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
When I am in person for the first time with a new client or agent, I definitely can be a bit shy and not always my full self because I’ve just met them. However, after the first meeting I feel much more comfortable and I’m good to go! I think bonding with your clients over your real life can help maintain those relationships long term.

I think social media can be tough to express your full self without oversharing or posting too much and losing interactions. However, I’ve been able to share a great mix of my personal life that I think gives people a great idea of the real me and who I would be in person.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace outside. Whether in the mountains in Tennessee or sitting at my parents on the Chesapeake Bay, I love being outside. With no phones or screens and just enjoying and observing all that’s going on. It’s truly the only times my head is clear.
