We recently had the chance to connect with Alex Wong and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve unfortunately, or fortunately(?) been caught up in the whole Labubu craze and that has honestly been really fun collecting them and getting rare ones!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alex Wong and I’m a professional dancer. I was a finalist and all star on So You Think You Can Dance and I mostly work in film and TV now. I was in the original broadway cast of Newsies, and danced for artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul and so many more. I also am very active on my social media pages @alexdwong
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents were definitely the ones that taught me most about work. They said whatever you do, don’t do it halfway, always give it your all, and find something you’re passionate about. Happiness and health above all.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, when I snapped my Achilles tendon and thought I may never dance again. Then I snapped the other side 1 year and 3 days later and I thought it was really a sign for me to find a new career as it takes almost 1 year to recover. Here I am about 13 years later still going strong!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Pretty much! I don’t hide that much of myself. I would share more, but I’m not THAT tied to posting everything of my life, mostly out of laziness haha, so I guess some of it remains a mystery!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I think I’d mostly continue doing the same things, but I think I’d travel even more than I currently do. And I’d go ahead and spend the rest of my money hahahaha
