We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Walehwa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
This is an easy one to answer. My attitude toward giving definitely stems from my upbringing and my family. Both my parents were in helping professions, so some used to joke that I had no choice but to choose one for myself. But beyond that, generosity was at the forefront of every exchange and in every role they held. Through them I learned that generosity is not just about money, it’s about the feeling of belonging and the importance of community. So, whether it was sharing a smile, time, advice, or a place to lay your head or eat a meal, I learned that giving extends far beyond a monetary contribution. And though my father has since passed away, both my parents modeled for me the power of connection and community and as such, leave a legacy that I intend to pay forward in any way that I can.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder of Felicity Counseling Services; a small private practice located here in St. Louis. Felicity was founded based off of my desire to work specifically with those impacted by complex trauma, who are from different backgrounds. It has remained my intention to provide trauma-informed therapeutic services with inclusive representation, which for me has meant confronting the stigma around mental healthcare and the systems that deny accessibility. Organically the practice has grown and now includes a like-minded group of caring individuals that includes our administrative and marketing team as well as our team of staff therapists and interns. Our hope is to continue to grow not only in our reach, but by continuously cultivating our skills through training and teamwork. We now offer other services geared toward breaking the stigmas that surround mental healthcare through our Keys to Felicity site. We continue to provide support to other clinicians through clinical supervision and training, while maintaining therapeutic support to children, teens, and adults through individual and group therapy.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three things that I’ve learned throughout the years that have been helpful:
A community who has been supportive of my growth and development in all areas of life
A willingness to readjust the strategy if the first one doesn’t go as planned
Maintaining the confidence and faith in myself to know that an idea was given to me because I am capable of accomplishing it
For those who are early in the journey, I encourage that if you are serious about a goal or dream, to allow yourself to become fully invested in it. Learn more about the things you need to know, nurture the relationships that can support you along the way and create regular reminders that you can do it and to keep going. I know there are certain songs and books and of course, relationships that have done really well for me in that regard.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am invested in the wellbeing of my community, so I am always open to collaborate with those who feel the same way. I can be reached via the Felicity Counseling website or at [email protected].
