We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Kay Doubleday a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda Kay, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
For over eight years, I’ve been capturing love stories all around Austin and the Hill Country. My favorite part? Bringing out all the real stuff, the laughter, the happy tears, the wild dance moves, and those quiet little moments in between.
I shoot in a variety of styles, from warm and golden to classic and true to color, and that’s what keeps my creativity alive. No two weddings are ever the same, and that’s exactly why I love what I do.
Every couple has their own vibe, and I take the time to get to know yours, your story, your style, your connection, so your photos feel genuinely you. Because when your gallery reflects who you are, that’s when the magic really happens.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
It all comes together to tell a story that feels true to each couple’s vibe and vision. My photography isn’t just about snapping pretty pictures, it’s about capturing the emotions, the connections, and all the in-between moments that make your day unforgettable. From quiet vows to wild dance floor energy, I love being right there in the middle of it all.
Capturing weddings, engagements, bridals, and more has shaped me into the photographer I am today, always chasing connection, creativity, and the kind of images that bring you right back to how it felt.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Connection with People
Getting to know my couples and their stories has been the heart of everything I do. Understanding who they are, what makes them laugh, and what moments matter most allows me to capture photos that feel personal and genuine.
2. Creative Flexibility
Shooting in different styles, from warm and golden to modern and clean, has kept my creativity alive. Every wedding, engagement, or bridal session challenges me to see things in a new way and tailor my approach to match the couple’s unique vibe.
3. Storytelling through Emotion
Photography isn’t just about beautiful light or composition for me; it’s about emotion.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Honestly, one of the biggest people who’s helped me grow is my main second shooter, Georges. He’s been my rock through the chaos of wedding days, always pushing me to get creative, find the light in tricky situations, and reminding me to breathe when those lovely mother-in-laws start getting a little too involved. We’ve tackled so many weddings side by side, and I’ve learned so much from his perspective, patience, and sense of humor. Having someone like that on your team makes all the difference, especially in this kind of fast-paced, high-energy work.
