Meet Kayla Harley

We recently connected with Kayla Harley and have shared our conversation below.

Kayla, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

It’s built in me. I’m an Indigenous Brown Woman who grew up in rough environments where rejection, judgement and criticism were a constant. It didn’t discourage me. It motivated me to define myself, be original and know no limits to exploration and success. I was often the first in many instances amidst my peers to do residencies, fellowships, intensives and workshop that were not local. So not only was I breaking the mold I often entered into spaces that were completely new to me so I had to learn quickly. It was never about proving anything but instead evolving into the person I am today that requires grit, focus, passion and yes resilience to life’s obstacles.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am holistic wellness educator that provides full service, support and care to those seeking to best align, heal, understand, regulate and reconnect their body, mind and spirit. I offer a number of modalities within the field of somatics such as but not limited to Breathwork, Movement: GYROKINESIS/GYROTONIC, Martial Arts, Dance and Embodied Ancestral Movement. The work I do is low impact, accessible and friendly for all ages, body types and levels. It is centered around sense memory, helping the body to remember, realign and return back to a state of homeostasis through gentle guidance of neurodynamic cues.

I see clients personally through my private practice as well as in group settings through workshops, lectures and or group retreats. My retreats are international and centered around Diasporic culture, customs and themes as means of “Remembering Home/Coming Home” because often Black and Brown bodies can be a very unsafe space to be in without a sense of awareness, love, integrity or deep relationship established. By the end of each one, participants don’t want to go home and neither do I!

I love working with Moms, as an Doula especially. To see them taking the breathing techniques I teach themselves into the labor room or during postpartum is such a fulfilling gift. I hope to offer retreats for Moms to bring their babies to in the near future.

I am a global practitioner which means, I stream online however I value in-person experiences wherever I’m located as well (I travel…a lot) My work can be accessed on Youtube including a few lessons and guided meditation. I am also very active on social media so I encourage persons to connect with me there under: @beebodi

Fun Fact: I rap about Wellness on TikTok! It’s light and fun and helps me to reach new audiences.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Community has proven to me very impactful in my life and journey. We go through things in life that can make us feel ashamed or lonely. We pull away when truth is revealed, but that’s actually the time to lean in for support. I’ve grown so much just by witnessing other peoples stories or exchanging my own. I’m grateful for the inspiration is brought forth for me and hope to continue aligning with communities that serve humanity.

I’m very resourceful. I’m not afraid to reach out and talk to a perfect stranger. I remain curious and open, taking plenty of notes, audio recordings and video clips as needed to gather information.

I listen more than I speak. There is so much life to take in, I’d advise anyone to not believe everything you see online or television but instead to get out there….and LIVE. Having a good ear is the key to unlocking opportunity, meeting great people and receiving fresh insight. The more you listen, the more you realize how much there is to know about a culture, custom, language or way of life on the other side of the grass, you’re used to walking on.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

I’m currently on a deep dive into my personal finances. Financial Literacy was not introduced to my in school nor within my family dynamic so I’ve taking this on fully by joining programs, webinars and reading books pertaining to money. It’s been informative, but also rooted in spiritual principles derived from the Kemetic 42 Laws of Ma’at, Universal Laws and classic master teachers like Susie Orman.

I’m committed to building a promising portfolio for myself, breaking unhealthy habits to reach my immediate goals and building up a sustainable future where I have more time on my hands, moments of being present and less of a need to work around the clock.
