Meet Kaneesha Worthington

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaneesha Worthington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kaneesha, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I grew up in Jackson, TN until I was 16 before my immediate family relocated to Plano, TX. Jackson is a small town known for its industrial businesses, colleges, and southern hospitality. Just like a lot of places, everyone there is trying to survive and enjoy life. However growing up, it always felt like everyone ended up moving away, pursuing religious or teaching careers, or the opposite- getting involved in the wrong crowds and tragedy. When my family made the decision moved to Texas, I didn’t realize how much that may have changed the trajectory of our lives and how different it would be living in a big city. Adjusting was hard at the beginning for me with meeting new people, while also finding my footing in my teenage years.

My children, Jalen and Zoe also gave me a new perspective on life. Being their mom encouraged me to get my college degrees and find my career to provide a stable life for them. Now, when I reflect over my accomplishments and the life I have; I feel blessed, because everything that challenged me in my early years taught me resilience to overcome change and obstacles. Especially, with recently to caring for aging parents, dealing with the death of a parent, going through a divorce, and finding my purpose in life.

As an artist, I get to tell the story of how I made it through life’s obstacles and how a lot of us share these experiences at some point in our lives. I hope that my art starts the conversation, inspires someone on their journey, and helps them be resilient as well.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a digital artist, and my art composes photography mixed with digitally drawn portraits using programs such as Adobe and Procreate. My latest collection embodies my transformational journey and shows what got me through my difficult times and how selfcare and spirituality became an important piece of my journey. I hope that people who look at my art, see a piece of themselves, and inspire them through their personal challenges. Art has allowed me to meet new people and really establish myself, in my passion. I hope that you will join me through my artistic journey as I continue to refine my skills and my creative avenues.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three things I think anyone needs to have when they are on the journey of following their passion is: confidence, consistency, and gratefulness.

You can go to school and get the skills needed, but you also need confidence to put yourself out there, engage with new people so they know who you are, show your work, and accept the criticism (constructive or not). You also need consistency. If this is your passion, you have to act like it. Show up for yourself and the rest will follow. Lastly, I think you need to be grateful. Be grateful for all the life lessons, what you have, and what’s to come. Be grateful for those who pour into you and show you that what you do or have is special.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I’ve had a long day or week, I resort to a couple of things to help me relax and I hope that one of these things help you.

Calling a friend- It’s always helpful when a friend can listen and make you feel seen, heard, or can make you laugh.

Outdoor activity- Going for a walk, run, or sitting by a body of water always helps me calm down and see the beauty around me.

Gym- The gym is good to release stress, listen to your favorite podcast, music, and feel better about yourself.

Journal – Journaling helps me get my thoughts out of my head and on to paper in the form of doodling, letters, or just jotting down my thoughts.
