Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jose Taveras. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jose, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
Honestly, I still struggle with burnout. It’s something that never fully goes away. You can’t avoid it completely, but you can learn how to manage and bounce back from it.
For me, it’s all about balance and moderation. But balance doesn’t just happen, you build it over time. It starts with taking control of your life: creating a schedule, managing your time, breaking things down into smaller steps, and finally taking action. Learn when to say no, prioritize yourself, and stick with it everyday even if you fail. That helps you become more accountable, which leads to consistency and consistency is what builds real balance. You learn the best through trials and tribulations.
When you’re consistently showing up, getting things done, and staying true to yourself, you build the tools to handle burnout. You learn how to juggle content creation, a full-time job, and everything else life throws at you. Breathe deeply. You’re doing your best. Don’t take things too personally and know people grow and make mistakes too.
And here’s the key: most things are best in moderation. You don’t need to do everything all at once. Be intentional and choose when to create, when to work, and when to rest or spend time with loved ones. After all the hard work you’ve done, take time to decompress. You deserve it. Manage the stress, don’t let it manage you.
The more consistent you are, especially with the things you love, the easier it is to stay on track. That doesn’t mean you won’t get tired of it sometimes, even your passion can feel exhausting, but you’ll always find your way back to it. Life isn’t perfect.
At the end of the day, it’s all about finding that balance. So when burnout hits, you know when to pause, reset, and keep moving forward. Failure doesn’t mean you quit, it means you have another opportunity to succeed because you don’t stop when you’re tired, you stop when the mission’s done.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
To put it simply, I express myself in the hope of sparking real conversations and building a community where people feel seen, heard, and valued. It’s all about holding each other accountable, whether it’s calling out a company to deliver on their promises or pushing yourself to hit personal goals.
We need more REAL in the world. The good and the bad. That balance helps people feel safe being themselves and when people can be themselves they do their best work, which leads to a better society. However, sometimes that means facing hard truths whether it’s about yourself or others.
That’s what Real Relate is all about! Authentic self-expression and setting the right example for those who come after. Whether it’s a podcast, a review, a relationship, whatever you’re doing, do it with intention, do it well, and don’t forget to have a little fun along the way.
And hey, side note: in the back of my mind I’m dreaming up an app or product powered by Real Relate. Something to make people’s lives a little easier.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If you’re just starting out, my top 3 pieces of advice are simple:
1) Start.
2) Be consistent.
3) Be intentional.
When you start something, anything, you give yourself a chance to finish it or at least learn something valuable. But if you never start, you’ll never grow, and you’ll never know what could’ve been.
Be consistent. Create a schedule and actually stick to it. It might take time to get into a rhythm, but keep showing up. I’ve seen the most progress in my life when I’ve been the most consistent.
And be intentional. Don’t just create to post. Don’t rush just to get something out. But also, don’t fall into perfectionism and never release anything. Find that middle ground. Stick to the plan. Adjust the plan. Put care into your work and be proud to share it even if it’s not “perfect” because the truth is, it’ll never be perfect. But it can be done. And done well.
You’ll learn as you go. Just give it your all every time. Push yourself. Be a beast. Try to improve just a little bit each day. And before you know it, you’ll be exactly where you wanted to be.
Just make sure you’re ready for it.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Lately, my physical health has been my #1 priority and honestly it’s where I’ve seen the most growth. I’ll always be a big guy, but once I started taking my health seriously by eating better, staying active, and being more mindful – everything else in my life started improving too.
I felt more capable of handling what life throws at me and I started performing better in other areas too. Mentally, emotionally, and even creatively. It’s not a perfect journey, but it’s mine. A personal project I actually enjoy working on.
It’s helped me feel like a better version of myself and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
