We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesus Sanchez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesus below.
Hi Jesus, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It’s hard to say if this is my purpose but it is definitely a passion of mine. I’ve always been driven by stories and moved by everyone’s unique lives. I love painting a mental picture for someone and showing them a different view on things. Showing someone that anything is possible if you truly have the passion for it is something I strongly believe in. My purpose, currently, is trying to grow and film interesting stories for whoever is interested.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an Independent Filmmaker, I am self taught and passionate. I feel like I have many ideas and stories to be told. I find excitement in creating an idea, making a script come alive through video always amazes me. Making a film takes so long gathering the funds and locations and actors, each short takes around 3 months to make. Being that, I try and always move on to my next project and stay busy grinding them out. Life is too short.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Number 1 being money does not equal creativity. You do not need film school, you do not need to pay anyone to teach you something you can easily YouTube. Find out what you need and research it for free.
Number 2 would be to practice and then practice some more. Film anything, give it story no matter how silly. Even if you never plan to show the world. All your knowledge will mean nothing if you can’t apply yourself.
Number 3 is network. As amazing as being an independent is, sometimes (more often than not) you need to take a step back from something and let someone else who is more experienced in that field handle it. You cannot do everything yourself, go out and make friends and meet people who are just as passionate at this as you are and create together.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
All of my creativity and motivation is fed to me through my amazing wife Tala. She is the reason I picked up a camera and the reason why I continue to create. She pushes me and keeps me on my path. I would not be who I am today without her by my side. Find that someone or something in your life and hold onto it.
