Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sam Recinos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sam, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Where do I get my resilience from?
What a question.
I grew up in a home where all my needs were met 100%.
I also grew up in a single parent home with a 6 year older brother active addict.
Growing up I wasn’t the smartest kid, I wasn’t the most athletic. But what was at home with an absent father I tried to excel for and notice me, and a brother diving off the deep end, I poured into sports.
Practices turned into family reunions, sweat turned into payment for releases, knowing I outworked yesterday turned into mantra.
I’ve been through so much in life at a young age with family, at a teenage age battling back from knee, shin, and heart surgeries. But I’ve always come out on top from the lessons life gave me as a young kiddo. World may be in chaos around you, but you still have to pick up that hammer and get back to work.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Physical therapy-I get to spend my days reassuring them that they’ll be back and better than ever. I know from where I came from, that I can answer some of the unknown that people may have going into an injury.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Honestly I think I can say empath…to put yourself into another’s shoes will give you better understanding of where they are on a journey. Knowledge, but also know where that ledge ends and when to call for help.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did….my father leaving my two other siblings.
That unlocked so many doors for me to be independent and learn how to be a man, but a man with standards. He taught me all the wrong things to do, and I have spent a better part of my life to be the absolute opposite of that. At the time I felt like I was missing something, and striving for excellence so he would notice, but the gift of self worth, and learning how to shine under the spotlight of adversity both academically and athletically are just gifts I received without knowing in the moment.

so if you or someone you know deserves recognition please let us know here.
