We recently connected with Mariah Thompson and have shared our conversation below.
Mariah, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my deep desire to succeed and thrive in my purpose. I know I am meant to be a person of influence, leadership, and authenticity, and I carry that belief into everything I do. I envision a certain life for myself, and that vision keeps me focused and determined to push through challenges, ensuring that the path I’m on reflects the future I aspire to create. I am confident that my gifts and talents will create a future I can be proud of—one that reflects my purpose and allows me to make a positive impact

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Mariah Thompson. I’m 24 years old and from a small town in North Carolina called Lincolnton. My journey in graphic design and photography began during my undergraduate studies at Elizabeth City State University, and I later pursued a Master’s in Media Design at Full Sail University to further refine my craft. I’ve always had a passion for creating because of the power it holds to influence and inspire. In my work, I prioritize being influential, original, and relatable using design as a way to build community and introduce fresh perspectives.
I launched Mariahnotcarey Photography during my senior year of college as the first step in building my creative business. It was the moment I decided to fully believe in my vision and take my craft seriously, knowing the potential for my brand to grow into something notable and successful. What began as a photography-focused platform has since evolved into a broader creative space that encompasses both graphic design and photography within the visual arts industry. This brand is deeply meaningful to me because it allows me to impact how people see themselves, while giving me the freedom to express my own vision of beauty. Some of my most rewarding moments come from capturing memories and witnessing how those images make people feel about themselves. Archiving these moments matters to me because memories are what we carry forward into the future.
Currently, I’m in the process of rebranding and expanding my platform while also growing Mariahnotcarey Designs, my merchandise line. Through this extension of my brand, I create thoughtfully designed pieces that blend style with storytelling, empowering people to express individuality, confidence, and culture through design.
As I continue to evolve creatively, I’m excited for the new opportunities ahead. This is just the beginning.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, discipline, creativity, and spiritual alignment. Being a business owner is not easy; you will experience both mountain tops and valleys, but this is where resilience makes the difference. I believe that if you’re called to be a business owner, resilience is already within you. It allows you to stand firm when you get knocked down, overcome obstacles, and adapt to anything that comes your way. Resilience is a must because no matter how things look, you have to keep moving forward. Giving up is never an option if you can see it, you can achieve it.
Discipline is also essential, whether in business or in life. No one should have to remind you to handle your responsibilities. Discipline and accountability show your character and your commitment to making your business successful.
Equally important for me is spiritual alignment. For me, God is my guide, providing direction, strength, and provision. My faith in the vision I hold for my business pushes me to stay creative, authentic, and patient, knowing there is a greater reward in this journey. It’s not just about achieving goals, but about who you become along the way.
For those early in their business journey, my advice is to never stop learning and to embrace evolution. Every day is a new opportunity to bring your vision to life. Don’t be afraid to change, revamp, rebrand, or even start over. You may find that your new beginning takes you further than your original plan ever could.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I am always open to partnerships and collaborations that align with my vision of originality. I’m especially drawn to working with creatives, entrepreneurs, and community builders who believe in the power of storytelling, authenticity, and using art as an expressive way to inspire and connect with others. For me, collaboration is about more than simply combining talents; it’s about building spaces where fresh ideas, culture, and perspectives can merge to create something truly impactful.
I value partnerships that are intentional and rooted in purpose, whether that’s through photography, design, fashion, or other creative mediums. My goal is to connect with people who want to celebrate individuality and build community through art.
If you’re interested in collaborating, I’d love to connect. You can reach me through my website portfolio or social media. I believe collaboration is one of the most powerful tools we have, not only to grow as individuals, but to create something greater than ourselves.
