Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Four Corners Group. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Four Corners Group, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Our purpose comes from providing youth in crisis with an alternative option in life, one that they might have never been presented before or never seen as a viable option for them. As an organization we serve youth who are historically marginalized and provide pathways for them through prevention, intervention, and restoration to a thriving adulthood.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Four Corners Group seeks to decrease juvenile recidivism and end the school- to-prison pipeline by providing youth with education, support, and empowerment to realize their full potential and live successful lives. Incarcerated youth are 70-80% more likely to reoffend, our group seeks to provide an alternative to this statistic. We serve students who are historically underserved and facing challenges attending Title I schools, have dropped out of school, are enrolled in an alternative school, have recently been released from juvenile detention center, are currently involved in the juvenile court system or juvenile facilities. We have multiple programs that help serve these students and their parents. One of our programs is our 10-week Pathways to Success Program. Students attending learn valuable life skills and lessons weekly from trained coaches and facilitators, and experience “life trips” each semester focused on job and career discovery, all while paying it forward to our community. Our organization also has programs for parents to learn tips on how to work alongside their students who may be struggling, as well as a partner program with trained mental health professionals that provide training and service to our youth. Our team members also visit Regional Youth Detention Centers to work with students on subjects like self-esteem, character, sobriety, and others with the goal of seeing successful re-entry into school/life outside of the facilities.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Our goal as an organization is to support those that society has forgotten. We strive to provide a safe space for students, no matter their background, to feel loved and valued. We try to emulate walking alongside students and providing mentorship to each student attending our programs for the purpose of reminding each student of their value.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for volunteers to join our team or anyone who would like to sponsor our organization. At Four Corners Group, our goal is to support youth in crisis and work with them to realize the inherent value and purpose they have. If you have a passion for supporting youth in crisis or helping stop the school-to-prison pipeline feel free to contact us about getting involved.
