We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nnamdi Ngwe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nnamdi below.
Nnamdi, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My mom! My mom is the reason I have a strong work ethic. I grew up with my mom and 3 siblings. The 5 of us crammed into a small apartment. It wasn’t much but it was ours. We got by from the salary my mom made working with children. In order to get an increase in salary, my mom had to take night classes and complete a program, so she signed up.
I remember watching go to class, study, write notes, and still be up early to get us ready for school in the morning. She eventually completed the program and got the better job. It was celebrated by us as win for the family but it was also an early lesson in “Hard Work Pays off”.
That’s one of the moments during my formative years that stand out to me. I saw my mom work so hard to raise 4 kids. I appreciated it when I was younger but now as an adult who understands things a bit more, I see that what she was able to do is incredible. It takes a lot of sacrifice and hard work to accomplish things and I keep that in mind with everything I do.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I write and perform comedy on stage and screen! I’ve always been a huge fan of TV and film so to get to see things I write appear on screen is a dream!
As a comedian, I have been fortunate enough to travel the world performing and teaching. I draw on my many experiences growing up in a number of places, my time as an athlete, my love of music, and more when creating comedy.
I have also found success creating comedic videos online. One of the characters I created is an announcer for classic CD commercials. I have a lot of fun playing him and the positive response from audiences has resulted in him now being on T-shirts and hoodies! A lot of the comedy videos revolve around music, tv, and film that we all love but I also sprinkle in other random references because there’s more to me, I promise!!!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that have helped me on my journey are:
Listening – I emphasize this in every workshop I teach so it is something I always keep in mind. I listen to others and also how I communicate.
Failing – Try new things. It’s okay to fail, try again, and learn each step of the way.
Travel – Overseas if you can but locally is great too! Interacting with people along the way and being curious about their experiences is eye opening!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have kept friends and family close that help me by supporting me, laughing with me, and listening to me. The people I keep close inspire me too. Whether it’s watching them cook an amazing meal or be really good at math, it’s motivating being be a fan of your own supporters.
I think a support system is very important and as adults, we’re usually able to have more agency over who is in our circles. I say, pick the people who make you feel good!
