We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Waller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive in photography by constantly looking for inspiration in everyday life. I pay attention to light, colors, and small details that others might overlook, and I use those moments to spark new ideas. I also challenge myself by experimenting with different styles, locations, and subjects so I don’t get stuck in one routine. Connecting with people through my lens is a big part of my inspiration, because every person and every story is unique. Finally, I give myself space to step away from the camera when needed, rest and reflection often bring me back with a fresh perspective.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a photographer with a passion for capturing genuine stories and emotions through my work. For me, photography isn’t just about taking pictures, it’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated. I love working with clients to highlight moments that are deeply personal, whether it’s a wedding, a graduation, or even everyday life that deserves to be remembered.
What excites me most is the ability to freeze time and give people something they can look back on for years. I especially enjoy connecting with people, stepping outside my comfort zone, meeting strangers, and turning those encounters into art.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my photography business by expanding into more travel opportunities and offering packages that allow me to work with people across different locations. I want my brand to represent authenticity, storytelling, and a little bit of adventure.
Something special about my photography is that I like to mix both classic and creative approaches—I might capture a timeless black-and-white portrait alongside a bold, colorful candid in the same session. I think that blend really reflects who I am as an artist.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep building relationships with clients, explore new creative projects, and share my work with a wider audience. My goal is always to create images that people don’t just see, but truly feel.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been curiosity, persistence, and connection.
Curiosity pushed me to explore new techniques, experiment with different styles, and constantly learn from the world around me. For anyone starting out, I’d say stay open, look for inspiration everywhere, and don’t be afraid to try something new, even if it feels outside your comfort zone.
Persistence helped me keep going through challenges, whether it was figuring out a tricky shoot or building my business from scratch. Early on, it’s important to embrace the process, stay consistent, and not get discouraged by setbacks, they’re part of growth.
Connection has been essential! Building relationships with clients, mentors, and other creatives not only opens opportunities, but also teaches you so much about people and storytelling. My advice: invest in relationships genuinely, listen, and collaborate, it will strengthen your work in ways you can’t always predict.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The people who have been most helpful in my journey are Catherine York and my husband and kids. Catherine, a mentor and friend, encouraged me to take the leap and start my business, giving me the confidence to pursue my dreams. My husband and kids have been my rock, supporting me through every step, celebrating the wins, and helping me keep going through the challenges
