Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maryah Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maryah , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism is rooted in my faith. My mother raised us to believe that everything will always work out. She raised us to believe that God himself is always working, even when we cannot feel it. Even in the toughest times, she taught us to see the good in the situation. Now that I am older and have experienced so much, it is easy for me to be optimistic. I always say, if I can see it in my dreams, then it is possible. Now there have been times where I have been in doubt or was not so optimistic, for example, when my mother was sick with cancer for the second time, before she passed, there were many days where I was not so optimistic, where I doubted a lot, where I could not see the good. However, in those moments, she would always say, God has a plan, we just have to see it through. That is where my optimism comes from: my faith in God and my late Mother.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a mother of 2 beautiful kids Zuri and Kevin. Becoming a mother was one of the most challenging yet rewarding journeys I have ever embarked on. Watching them grow up fuels me to be better than yesterday. The special part about being a mother is my kids looking at mommy and being proud and inspired. I’m currently working towards becoming a full-time content creator, as well as pursuing a career in Human Resources. The most exciting thing about working towards becoming a full-time creator is the community that I am building. It is heart-warming to see the women, the mothers, who follow me and get inspired by the type of content I post. My sole purpose on social media is to show and prove to other women, and especially mothers, that we are more than just a Mom, we are more than just a girl who works a 9-5, we are more, and we can do more if we please. So many times, we as women are placed in a box of what “we should be doing”, so I am here to show and let my community know that WE are the ones who control the narrative over our lives. That is what I am about, that is what I want my brand to stand on.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
This is a great question. The three most impactful qualities are faith, resilience, and authenticity. You have to have faith to see it through; you have to believe that you will reach your goal. You believe it and work hard, God is going to meet you where you are and do more than you imagined in his timing. Resilience, because there are going to be days when you do. not want to show up, some days where you do have the energy, but those are the days where you have to give yourself a pep talk, take a step back and breathe, then hop right back in when you are ready. Do not overwork yourself, but also do not give up on yourself. Lastly, authenticity is the most powerful quality anyone can possess and showcase. Everyone has their tribe, and they want to follow and gain inspiration from you for a reason, so just be yourself. The best advice I can give someone is to believe you can do it, give yourself grace, do not give up on yourself, and just be you!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Grief. Losing my Mother has been tough. Navigating motherhood and life without her is even tougher. She was truly an angel on earth. I have been trying to turn grief into a testimony. She would not want me and my siblings to sit around a be sad just because she’s gone. She would want us to go harder in any and everything we do. I’ve been trying to be more confident in my parenting and confident in myself that I can do all things. Using her passing as motivation to go after everything that I dream of and trusting God every step of the way has been helping me overcome grief. She would have wanted it that way.
