We were lucky to catch up with La Tonya Powers recently and have shared our conversation below.
La Tonya, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
The truth is, resilience isn’t automatic — it’s cultivated. It’s not something you’re born with; it’s something you build. I often say, “I’m not angry — I’ve learned.” That phrase has become a personal mantra, a reflection of the growth that came through adversity. Over time, I discovered that resilience has levels, and the first level required me to stretch my capacity — especially while navigating some of the most challenging seasons of my life.
For me, resilience was born out of a sacred refusal to give up. I had to intentionally gift myself with developmental moments and spaces to reflect, recalibrate, and rise. Those moments became the classroom where resistance was shaped, and that resistance became the foundation for the resilience I now carry. It wasn’t just about surviving; it was about learning how to live stronger, deeper, and more purposefully.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve always had a deep love for life and a passion for helping people, as a transformational life strategist, author, and multi-business entrepreneur. “That passion has fueled every venture I’ve pursued, from writing books and launching my coaching company to now owning a thriving cleaning service.”
As a certified master life coach and founder of Strategy Soul Solutions, I specialize in helping individuals unlock their full potential. Most people don’t realize they’re only one meaningful conversation away from making the best decision of their lives. That’s why I’ve never been drawn to vision boards. Seeing a goal is one thing, but strategizing activates the power within to actually reach it.”
My love for writing has produced a diverse portfolio of published works, including a prayer journal, prophetic manual, and empowerment resources. My titles include 12 Minutes to Change Prayer Journal, Eliora the Warrior Princess, and my newest release, Eye on Sight, which debuts on November 16th.
My latest entrepreneurial endeavor — Aqua2C Cleaning Services — reflects my commitment to excellence in every sphere. I take great pride in introducing people to their next level of clean. It’s more than a service, it’s a standard.
Looking ahead, I’m developing workshops designed to help women step into their full potential, as well as a children’s book that explores life’s challenges through a child’s lens. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next. Every project is an opportunity to serve, to elevate, and to leave a legacy.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have been especially impactful in shaping my journey: resilience, strategic thinking, and spiritual discernment.
Resilience wasn’t something I inherited; it was something I had to build.. It grew in the trenches of hardship, through seasons where giving up felt easier than pressing forward. For those just starting, I encourage you to embrace discomfort as a teacher. Please don’t run from hard seasons; lean into them. That’s where your strength is forged.
Strategic thinking has been the heartbeat of every venture I’ve launched, from my coaching company to my cleaning service. Don’t just dream design. Learn to break your vision into actionable steps. Surround yourself with mentors, resources, and conversations that challenge you to think beyond inspiration and into implementation.
Spiritual discernment has guided every decision I’ve made. Whether writing books, coaching clients, or building businesses, I’ve leaned on divine insight to navigate timing, partnerships, and purpose. For those early in their journey, cultivate a quiet space where you can hear beyond the noise. Prayer, reflection, and spiritual alignment aren’t just personal practices; they’re leadership tools.
My journey has taught me that success isn’t just about what you build, it’s about who you become while creating it. Stay teachable, stay grounded, and never underestimate the power of one well-timed conversation to change everything.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe in honoring your strengths, but life will teach you how to grow in your weaknesses, whether you plan for it or not. It’s not always about choosing between being well-rounded and going all in. Sometimes, it’s about surviving seasons that force you to do both.
I’ve had to lose business to appreciate what it means to be an entrepreneur truly. When everything was running smoothly, I thought success was only about systems and strategy. But when things fell apart, I realized entrepreneurship is also about endurance, reinvention, and faith. That loss taught me how to lead with heart, not just hustle.
I’ve lost relationships that I thought would last forever. And in that loss, I learned to appreciate love not just romantic love, but the kind that sees you, holds space for you, and grows with you. Those moments taught me that connection is sacred and that healing is part of the journey.
I even went through a mental breakdown, a moment where my thoughts felt too heavy to carry. But it was in that breakdown that I learned the value of thought itself. I learned to slow down, to listen to my inner voice, and to honor my mind as much as my mission.
And yes, I had to unplug from social media. I realized that constant exposure to curated lives and digital noise was clouding my clarity. Stepping away gave me space to hear God, to listen to myself, and to rediscover what truly mattered. It wasn’t isolation, it was restoration.
So when people ask whether they should focus on their strengths or improve their weaknesses, I say: Life will balance you if you let it. Your strengths will open doors, but your struggles will teach you how to walk through them with grace. Don’t be afraid to grow in the areas that feel uncomfortable; that’s where wisdom is waiting.
