We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beth Buffington. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beth below.
Hi Beth, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I am resilient.
I’ve been the creative in the room who:
• Didn’t have enough experience
• Wasn’t old enough to “know”
• Wasn’t a man
• Was pregnant
• Had too much experience
• Was too old… 30, 40, 50 60… there’s always “that decade” that defines us
• Was the wrong generation to understand “today”
Resilience is about building strength…and learning to adapt to whatever “new normal” life is giving to us as we walk each season of our life.
Being resilient has helped me through… bad economies, 911, the pandemic, politics in the world (and the office), tariffs and all the unique big/small challenges that I’ve encountered as a creative woman entrepreneur.
Here’s what I’ve learned as I’ve faced challenges or blocked paths in each season of life…
We need to lead with our strengths, and find ways to adapt to the challenges that block our paths.
Resilience is my most important tool.
Resilience is what I share on my Podcast “Creative Today with Beth Buffington”,
it is what I coach to my students in my “Create-Today” Membership,
and it is what I share at the “Sylva Solace Creative Resilience” Retreats that I lead.
I help people realize their unique creativity is an important tool to: find, grow and maintain resilience in their life.
Creativity is the key.
It is as important as good nutrition, exercise and sleep.
I share the science that proves… creativity can make us happier and healthier in heart, mind, body and soul.
I teach resilience by sharing my “Going Fourwords” Creative Process.
These four words: Revive, Realize, Refine and Release –help organize and care for ourselves to build confidence and…resilience.
Today I am resilient…
This is how I stay strong, and adapt to those “new normals” as I walk and relish each day of my creative life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the founder of BDI Create-Today.
Create-Today is a safe space for all people to learn the benefits that creativity will bring to life in heart, mind, body and soul.
Creativity is as important to our health and happiness as having good nutrition, exercise and getting enough sleep.
It’s amazing how many people I chat with tell me “I’m no artist” so I am not creative.
My passion and calling is to share that all people can find a creative passion they can “go to” consistently that will bring the benefits creativity has to offer.
Gardening, cooking, journaling, photography, creating spreadsheets, wood working, knitting, painting, drawing, singing, playing instruments, writing, beading… are wonderful creative activities….but the list goes on and on and on.
I teach the power of creativity through:
• My podcast: “Create-Today with Beth Buffington”
• My creative membership “Create-Today”
• “The Sylva Solace Creative Resilience” Retreats
•. Teaching my creative process “Going FourWords with Your Creativity”
• Through workshops and tutorials that teach creative principles and illustration
The Sylva Solace retreat is October 16-19 2025 Information: https://www.bdi-create.today/sylva-retreat

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My three most important qualities most impactful for my journey are definitely:
1. Curiosity
2. Excitement to learn new things
3. Resilience… no matter what… through celebrations and setbacks
My advice to folks early in their journey:
1. Always lead with your strengths. You have many. Showcase them!
2. You don’t know everything… listen and be willing to adapt and learn!
3. Celebrate something every day!
One of the best ways to keep improving, stay resilient and build your confidence is to surround yourself with people who will inspire you. Don’t be afraid to find a guide who can help you map your math..

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Having a community of artist friends who “get it” and who walking a similar creative path has been crucial for me.
Because I’ve “found my people” I have been able to reach goals that I only dreamed about.
Part of this is because community helps you SEE what you are capable of achieving.
Part of this is because community introduced you to people who can open the doors you need to walk through.
I love being in a room filled with folks who have tons of creative goodness to share.
Being in community has definitely helped me build confidence—and has shortened the distance to achieving my goals.
My pledge is to provide these same advantages to my students inside my membership, retreats and my podcast.
I believe is it vital to give back and offer empathy and opportunities to folks who are curious to learn or are just starting their journey.
