Meet Latrell Floyd

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latrell Floyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Latrell, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my goals that I have for myself. I have had dreams of living the life I want since I was a kid. This goes from everything from educational goals, to personal goals, and professional goals.

I also get my resilience from my Mommaw. Seeing everything she went through in life and how she persevered through it motivates me and will motivate me forever.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I just graduated with my Executive Certificate (Doctoral Certificate) in Communication and I am fully committed in my career. I am an HR Communication Specialist and a Radio Talk Show Host at RadioLex where I host two shows, Talks with Trell and The Weekly Recap with Latrell.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities that were most impactful to me was determination, perseverance, and personality. I believe in whatever field or career a person goes into, these skills are very important to have.

Some advice that I got was from a person named Raven-Symone who is a News Reporter and she gave me a quote from Oprah. We had a conversation back in 2020 and this quote still has an impact on me to this day and that quote is “Do what you have to do, until you can do what you want to do”.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A book that has played an important role in my development recently would be Keke Palmer’s book “Master of Me”. Some of the valuable and impactful nuggets of wisdom I took from this book is to control your narrative. No matter what you are in charge of YOUR story and you can narrative and direct how you want it to go. It is important to take ownership of your own life story.
