We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charlie White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charlie below.
Hi Charlie, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from a belief in synchronicity, the idea that meaningful connections and moments aren’t random, but opportunities to act with purpose. When life places someone in my path who needs help, I see it as a moment I’m meant to respond to. It ties directly into the Golden Rule, to treat others the way I would hope to be treated if fate put me in their position. Stoic philosophy reinforces this by reminding me that while I cannot control the world or other people, I can control my character, my actions, and the way I show up for others. Generosity, then, becomes an expression of virtue, a conscious choice to align my actions with justice, compassion, and a shared humanity. Through that lens, giving isn’t just an act of kindness, it’s an intentional practice of living in harmony with fate, principle, and the interconnectedness of all people.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m always looking for ways to stay active and have fun! Right now I have a real passion for pickleball. Currently I am an athlete signed to the Lunar Pickleball team and I’m also an ambassador for the sport of pickleball with companies like the PPA, MLP and others! I am based out of Southern California in Orange County.
Beyond the court, I work as a Principal User Experience Designer at Blizzard Entertainment. With over 20 years designing in the tech industry, I’ve built a proven track record of success and contributed to some of the most iconic and successful games ever released.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
How about 3 qualities and one more for good luck?
Hard Work & Action: I believe in working hard and taking action to become the best version of myself.
Willingness: I strive to do my best… someone who shows up with intent every single day.
Awareness: I value the honesty and humility it takes to recognize my weaknesses and actively improve them, while also knowing my strengths and putting them to use with purpose.
Tenacity: Never give up! No matter the obstacle, I believe in pushing forward, persisting through adversity, and finding a way.
Open-Mindedness: Staying teachable and coachable is essential. I never want to stop learning, evolving, and embracing new opportunities… even if it means pivoting for greater success.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
A number of people come to mind! Here are just a few of them:
Marcel Chan – Asia’s #1 Celebrity Pickleball Coach
Marcel helped refine my technical game and brought an infectious enthusiasm that made every session inspiring.
Tyson McGuffin – PPA & MLP Pro Pickleball Player
It was an honor to meet Tyson and his coaching staff at his signature camp in Los Barriles, Mexico. As a player, coach, husband, and sponsored athlete, he’s a powerful example of how to carry yourself in this sport and in life! Truly lives up to being “the most electrifying man in sports”!
Matt Nola & James Kim – Lunar Pickleball
Matt Nola welcomed me into the Lunar Pickleball family, and I’m incredibly grateful for the journey with the Lunar team. James Kim really put so much energy into growing Lunar Pickleball in Southern California and the United States, and I value working with him!
Russell Moon & Joe Ruggiero – Spiritual Giants of Santa Monica, CA
These two men introduced me to a life rooted in service and gratitude. They showed me how to live a meaningful life and how to push through adversity. Though they’ve passed on from this world, their influence still guides me daily.
Mike Piscitelli – Venice Beach
A spiritual friend whose impact on my life’s journey has been significant and deeply appreciated.
Drew Donlin “Captain America” – Team USA Handball
Drew was more than an elite athlete, he was an incredible teammate. I hope to see him representing Team USA at the 2028 LA Olympics with the USA Handball Team.
Ebiye Udo-Udoma “Handball Ninja” – Team USA Beach Handball
Ebiye is a phenomenal athlete who gave his time to elevate both my skills and the team. His one-on-one guidance was instrumental in helping me improve my knowledge and skills in the sport of Beach Handball.”
Kenny Nguyen – MOTION Fitness Group | Orange County
Kenny took to my very first pickleball session and later started the nickname the ‘T1000’ – the Terminator of Pickleball. Also, MOTION Fitness Group helped get me in the best shape of my life!
Vik Saraf – Blizzard Entertainment
Vik gave me the platform and opportunity to drive meaningful, positive changes though UX design.
Ivy Sang – Blizzard Entertainment
For assembling a team of UX and UI superstars for an unannounced Blizzard project. I am very excited for the future.
My identical twin brother and his family.
Incredibly grateful for all their love and support. It mean so much I have a hard time even articulating it.
And of course, my wife Maria
She volunteered for years as a Team USA manager to support my handball dreams and continues to stand by me both on and off the court. Her support is constant, genuine, and invaluable.
It’s a great gift to be able to both receive and accept help through life’s obstacles. It’s something I learned later in life. I strive to pass along what has been given to me without any expectation.
This was a long list but there are so many more! I’m incredibly grateful for everyone that has been on this journey with me.
Change is the only constant. Forever forward!
