Meet Martheus Wade

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Martheus Wade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Martheus, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

This is a tough one because I believe my resilience comes from a place of need and obstinacy. I need to do art because it’s what I am. I love telling stories and drawing and I think without that, I might not be here. On the other hand, I’ve been told “no” so much that stopping because of that would be giving in to the fear of failure and I’m always running towards the hard thing to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Martheus Wade and I am a designer and comic book creator based in Memphis TN. I create comic books and art with my my wife and son who, together, we make up MAW Productions, LLC. It is a graphic design and comic book production company. Our most popular book has been Shinobi: Ninja Princess which was published by Scholastic. We are currently continuing that book while branching into the story’s future in our new book Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa. Jetta: Tales of Toshigawa will be making its animated debut on Youtube in the form of a motion comic December 12. I’m most proud of our work with those two books and I’m looking forward to working with my son on ideas we are cultivating for our next series.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I loved to learn about new techniques and methods of art production. That love and interest has always kept me going through rough times in school. Being able to understand how comics were made, who made them, distribution, costs… I was always learning something. I always wanted to learn the why of something and not just the how. My advice would be to learn as much as you can about the subject you want to evolve in. Not just how to do it. But the why behind it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I love collaboration and am always looking to collaborate with other illustrators, writers and voice actors. We are currently looking to expand our artistic community to include diverse, like-minded individuals who crave creativity and innovation. We are independent thinkers and I want to surround myself with others like us. You can contact us trough social media (instagram, TikTok, YouTube, discord) under Toshigawa Universe. We also have our store and discord under the same name toshigawauniverse.com.
