Meet Tyler Forster

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Forster. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.

Tyler, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

That is a good question. I attribute my sense of purpose to the evolution and development of my strengths and interests.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I design sporting goods for recreational and competitive gymnastics. The focus of my product line is to improve the quality of training for gymnasts from foundational skills to elite-level routines in order to achieve better results.

Gymnastics is fairly minimalist in that not much personal equipment is required or available. Prior to introducing a handful of new items to the industry, such products and product categories did not exist. I enjoy identifying opportunities to make a positive update in a sport that I love very much.

All products are original and there are a couple patents pending, which I am proud of.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

As a student, foreign language classes always held my interest; I was amazed at the notion that if I could learn to speak another language then I could communicate with and learn about that many more people – The prospect was very exciting as a young person wanting to learn about the world and have some meaningful part in it. On the production side my business requires Japanese language communication and travel, so I am satisfied.

Visualizing and believing strongly in my goals is a powerful tool that helps keep me focused and positive. I enjoy breaking down tasks to achieve the larger picture. If I can be technical and creative at the same time, I feel fulfilled.

When the time comes to make a decision that involves risk and reward, I consider that sometimes, I am in fact the right person for the job.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I have two daughters with the oldest who just turned 3 years old. My responsibilities and obligations have grown and evolved into quite a lot over the past few years, and sometimes I feel almost overwhelmed with what must be done. I also own and manage a gymnastics club and must be accountable to my staff and customers.

Balance is difficult to find at this stage in life, and progress with goals and aspirations has slowed. My mom says, “we can have it all but not at once.” It seems there just isn’t enough of oneself to give to all facets of life equally, and that has to be okay. I am also keenly aware of time slipping away with my children as we all grow older, so I do my best to listen to them, look them in the eyes, be playful and encourage them. I believe the other stuff of life will work itself out.
