We recently connected with Kimberlee Tucker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberlee, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
From Struggle to Success: How I Found My Purpose as a Businesswoman
Many people think purpose is something you stumble upon by chance. For me, it unfolded one decision at a time — starting with a little girl in 4th grade who was simply struggling to be seen.
Where It All Began
My purpose and mission field in life began when my daughter, Sophia, who is now 23, was in 4th grade. Sophia is neurodivergent, and her public school classroom environment was overwhelming. She experienced constant sensory overload, concepts moved too quickly for mastery, and her brilliance was being buried under a system that wasn’t built for her.
One day, Sophia asked if she could be homeschooled. As a certified teacher and a mother watching my sweet, intelligent daughter fall through the cracks, I knew it was time for a change. That single “yes” to homeschooling Sophia became the spark that ignited two of the greatest purposes in my life:
Homeschooling Sophia and watching her spread her wings and soar.
Finding my passion for homeschooling, and using my background to break away from standards that suppress so many children in traditional classrooms.
A Growing Calling
Uncovering my passion as a homeschool mom led me to use my certification as a teacher in new ways. I began administering the annual evaluations required for homeschooled children in Florida. My first year was small, but word spread, and the numbers grew exponentially. By year eight, I was serving more than 1,000 children each year throughout the state.
Over time, I expanded from portfolio evaluations and testing to consultations that helped families get their footing in the homeschooling world. I loved equipping parents with tools and confidence, especially those whose children were also neurodivergent or struggling in traditional settings.
Rising from Hardship
Around this time, my personal life shifted dramatically. I went through a traumatic divorce. But please don’t feel sorry for me — this event became a catalyst. It deepened my passion to reach even more families who needed resources and community.
Through much prayer and reflection, God gave me the vision of a storefront dedicated to homeschooling families. I poured four years of hard work, planning, and perseverance into crafting that vision into reality.
The Homeschool Hive Is Born
In September 2022, I opened the doors to The Homeschool Hive. What began with one mother and one daughter has now blossomed into something I could only have dreamed of:
A thriving storefront where families can find resources, curriculum, and community.
A busy warehouse and e-commerce business reaching families far beyond my own state.
A dedicated team of 10 evaluators administering evaluations, testing, and consultations.
Workshops and events that equip and encourage families on their homeschool journey.
A private catalog serving scholarship families in Florida, many of whom are neurodivergent, plus partnerships with 7 additional states offering ESA scholarships to homeschooling families.
Today, The Homeschool Hive has grown into a multi-million-dollar company, but more importantly, it’s a place where families feel empowered, supported, and seen.
Looking Back, Looking Forward
When I look back, I see how what once felt like heartbreak and challenge became the very foundation of my purpose. It all started with a little girl who was struggling and asked to be homeschooled — and it has grown into a mission that now touches the lives of families across the country.
My story is proof that purpose doesn’t always come from comfort. Sometimes it’s born in the fire — through challenges, trials, and even heartbreak. But with faith, persistence, and a willingness to serve, it can grow into something greater than you ever imagined.
