Meet Jake Ross

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jake Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

It took me a long time to realize what my purpose was and I am not certain I have fully identified it at this point. But what I have found is a strong desire or even a need to sit with others and hold space for them. I have found that being a human can be tough at times and knowing that we have one person who is making that space and can be be there alongside of us is empowering.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I empower millennial men to manage their stress differently in order to lead more fulfilling lives and navigate their relationships with less stress.

This work excites me so much because I am a millennial man who has struggled with stress at different times in my life. I believe men in general but especially those of this generation are in a difficult place of being the husband, the father, the professional all while still trying to stay true to themselves.

Recently I have had the opportunity to further connect with my Appalachian heritage and explore how that culture has impacted me as a man and person. I am privileged to be speaking on Narrative Healing in Appalachia next month.

I am very excited about the future of The Ross Wellness Group. Continuing to find new ways to support fathers, men, families, and the community in engaging and effective fashion.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Perseverance, empathy, and balance.

I think I had the first two for as long as I can remember, but just gained the third and am still working to master it.

For folks looking to develop perseverance, I think it is all about finding what makes you tick. Once I found what I was truly passionate about, learning more and getting better is fun, it does not feel like effort.

If you are looking to enhance your empathy, I think it is all about emotional awareness. Being in tune with your own feelings/emotions and how they feel is pivotal to being able to recognize others.

As far as balance goes, I think it is about identifying what your values are and then holding yourself accountable to ensuring your behavior follows those values. I love being a dad, but when I am sitting in front of the computer instead of sitting with my kids am I really living that value?

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking for new opportunities for partnerships and collaborations! If you are focused on men’s health, men’s wellness, supporting fathers/families, or communities please connect with me. You can reach out through www.therosswellnessgroup.org.
