Meet Sharonda Scott

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharonda Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sharonda, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

This is something that I am still experiencing working in hollywood for the last 7 years. I think growing up in diverse environments and traveling has helped me built a confidence that no matter where I go or no matter where I am my voice still matters. The truth of the matter is that all diversity matters. I just makes better stories. More complete human experiences. And we find more often than not we have way more in common with other humans even if they are from a completely different background from us. This is what traveling to 70 countries taught me. My voice matters and first I felt intimidated by the task. And even at times when I feel like I don’t have something to contribute, there are others who look like me and will come after me. Others who will most certainly identify with my experience. I also know that because no one else has had my experience. Especially in those rooms and that makes me an asset instead of a liability. I know I have something equally powerful to contribute. And I have been so fortunate to be in rooms where my voice was heard and that gave me more confidence to keep speaking up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

People always ask me what I do. Andi always respond “I do a lot of things.” I am a multi-hyphenate and I’m fortunate to have live lived many lifetimes in my few years here on the planet. I start out in prostate cancer research, and from there I’ve been a fashion/textile designer and owner of my own fashion brand. I am a professional singer and song writer who has traveled to many places and sang, wrote and recorded music in different language Including English, Spanish, Portuguese and even Russian! I am a painter and a poet. I am a missionary and philanthropist. Bringing visibility and resources to children in need in places like India, Brazil and Mozambique. I even ran a home for rescued children for a while. I am an Actor, stunt performer and dive master. I am a traveling and explorer of cultures and anthropology; having been to 70 countries with no plans on slowing down. In this next chapter of my life I am looking forward to sharing me own story as well and bringing visibility to other marginalized voices through the world as a storyteller and documentary film maker.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of my most impactful experiences has been exposure. My mother was a women of many fears but as a child she sent me off to summer camps in different countries. And as a teenager I traveled to Paraguay, South America alone as a foreign exchange student eager to learn Spanish and explore a new culture. This experience opened the world to me. Made me fearless and adventurous. And I am grateful that my mother never accepted what was the status quo she always pushed the limits to make sure I had the best education and opportunities. So much of who I am I owe to her. My advice to anyone really is to travel. See the world. Slow down and become really present. Don’t just chase things or dreams experience life. Learn to enjoy the journey instead did being such in a rush to get to a place where no you feel you’ve worked enough to deserve the fruits of life. Learn a new language early in life and stay open and flexible and a student of the world. Always eager to learn, growth and empathize with others. Approach life humbly.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! I’m looking for creatives, dreamers, story tellers and explores. I am also looking for other singers and song writers to collaborate with. I would love to explore sync licensing and be able to share more of my music with the world. I am also looking for interesting people. Unicorns if you will. Who love to travel, explore the world and tell their stories.
