Meet Max Weisman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Max Weisman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Max, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

My optimism is from my personality and a record of everything coming together. In communications and public relations, everything can feel like a mess or a crisis. If a professional operates from a record and belief that everything will work out, it allows for clear-headed thinking and strategic planning. Ironically, that feeling of mess and crisis often clouds judgment and leads to poor decision-making. Optimism is a great way to live life, but also a recipe for effective strategy and winning campaigns.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As a communications professional, I like to help others share their story. Our news cycle and social media platforms are focused on human interactions and storytelling. When I work with a person, organization, or brand, I find that they are most effective when their personality and story lead the way. I am passionate about helping others find the most engaging and effective way to share their stories with others. In addition to perfecting the art of storytelling, I work strategically to find the best method and time for storytelling so that it is well-received and resonates with the intended audience.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The most impact qualities in shaping my journey were active listening, connecting on a personal level, and being comfortable sharing with others. While most people can learn how to write a press release or pitch a story, the most effective communicators will lead with their personalities and foster connections with media, principals, the general public, and digital personalities. I would advise professionals, new or seasoned, to always practice their pitches, speeches, etc. to make sure they land well and are received as intended.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

As a communications professional, I am always looking to collaborate with professionals who need communications support but bring other valuable skills to the table. I often work with fundraisers, government affairs, legislators, and non-profits who have laudable skills which can be enhanced with communications consulting, storytelling support, digital strategy, media training, or overall branding. I enjoy working with people and groups who are passionate but need support in honing their message.
