We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DERRIEL ALEXANDER a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DERRIEL, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I’m definitely better now, but I still have my moments. There are times I question if I’m doing enough or if I truly belong in certain spaces, but I’ve learned that those thoughts don’t define me. What helps me is remembering that I was chosen for this path for a reason, and every step of my journey is intentional. I remind myself to focus on progress, not perfection, and to celebrate how far I’ve come instead of comparing myself to others. Each time I push past fear and keep going, I gain a little more confidence and trust in what God is doing through me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey has been about turning passion into purpose. I’m a registered nurse, entrepreneur, dancer, and mentor, and everything I do is centered on helping people feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.
I’m the owner of DeExclusive Events in Spring Texas, a event space where people come together to create beautiful memories. I also run DeExclusive 360, my photo booth rental business that brings fun and energy to events across Houston and beyond.
Dance has always been my first love, and through my non-profit Passion to Purpose mentorship and dance team, I get to pour into the next generation. Teaching confidence, creativity, and discipline both on and off the floor.
What makes my journey special is how it all connects. Whether it’s through an event, a photo booth experience, or a dance class, my mission remains the same. That mission is to create moments that inspire joy, confidence, and community. And as I continue to grow each brand, I’m excited to keep building spaces that remind people their dreams are possible.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things have been most impactful for me: faith and perseverance, adaptability, and genuine care for people.
Faith and perseverance kept me moving forward even when I was starting from scratch with just a dream and vision. Adaptability allowed me to pivot and learn quickly whether it was growing my event space, launching my photo booth business, or building my mentorship program. And caring deeply about people has been at the heart of everything I do, from events to dance to mentoring young talent.
For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: show up consistently, embrace the learning curve, and lead with heart. Develop perseverance by taking small, intentional steps toward your goals each day. Strengthen adaptability by being open to change and new ideas. And always invest in relationships, the people you serve and the people who support you will be your greatest teachers and allies.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I love partnering with people who are as passionate about creating experiences and inspiring others as I am. I’m particularly interested in collaborating with event planners, fellow entrepreneurs, photographers, content creators, and organizations focused on mentorship, arts, or community-building.
If you’re reading this and is interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you! The best way to connect is through my website, social media, or directly via email. Together, we can create something meaningful, fun, and impactful for the people we serve.
