We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful April Jourdan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with April below.
Hi April, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.
I remember getting fired literally after returning from lunch. I was hired by the new management company at a leasing property. The previous management company didn’t have my specific position available to continue on. Immediately after being told I was going to be terminated effective immediately, I went into action. With being a licensed producer for both LA/TX this allows me to make income that pays out daily and to keep things afloat for my household. Shortly after while in the job hunt process I also decided to add another source of income and jump right into the world of esthetics.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I didn’t compare my business to those who have years of experience. (2) Continuing education is the most effective. (3) Not afraid to re-invent the wheel to my character as a person. My advice I would give anyone on this journey of entrepreneurship is to always be a student. You can never know too much or everything there is in your field of business.
