We were lucky to catch up with Keyonna Hollingsworth recently and have shared our conversation below.

Keyonna, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?

I get some of my biggest inspiration and motivation from the community around me. My friends and family continuously help me pour back into myself which in return helps me stay on track and keep me in uplifted spirits to strive for greatness for my business.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Keyonna Hollingsworth and I am the owner of Lock N’ Key Kosmetics. I am 24 years old and live in Dover, DE. I started this business during August 2021 as a passion project and have been getting tremendous support from my community ever since. My brand’s motto is to “give beauty a different meaning” which means true beauty shows through the confidence of a woman. I strive to show women little things they can do in the morning in a rush that will make them feel ready and empowered throughout the day. I am currently in the process of rebranding and relaunching with 8 new and approved lip gloss shades and adding a few new lip liner colors as well!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

As I reflect on my business owner journey, some traits that are essential to being a business owner is perseverance, adaptability & being able to keep up with the times. Sometimes no matter how much you plan that’s just not the way life works and being able to push through any unplanned hiccups along the way will take you further than you can ever imagine. My advice to new business owners is to let your work show for itself and everything else will follow behind.
