Meet Amy Chinian

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Chinian a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose through a personal experience that turned into a calling. When my children had head lice and passed it to me while I was nine months pregnant, I was overwhelmed, but that moment opened my eyes to how little people knew about lice and how much help was needed. Years later, I realized I could make a difference, so I started my own business to help others. What began as a solution became a passion; I discovered I loved helping people, enriching their lives, and removing the stigma around lice. Today, I live that purpose fully. I employ around 30 women, empowering them to support their families, and I help children reclaim their confidence. I’m writing a children’s book called “Everybody Gets Lice” to normalize the experience, and I run a nonprofit, Lice Free Forever Charity, which sends products to families in need so kids can return to their lives without shame.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Professionally, I’m focused on running a family-owned business that provides effective, non-toxic solutions for treating head lice. What’s most exciting about what I do is knowing that the products I’ve created actually work, especially for families who’ve tried everything else and are feeling exhausted and defeated. When they come to me, they’re often at their wits’ end, and being able to offer real relief is incredibly rewarding. Beyond the products, I’m proud of the impact I’ve had on the women I hire and train. Many of them have learned a new trade, found steady work, and are now able to support their families. There’s always demand for what we do, and I’ve built a brand that people actively seek out. What makes it truly special is the heart behind it; we’re a family business that genuinely cares about every customer’s experience. Whether it’s helping a child feel confident again or empowering a woman to thrive professionally, our mission is rooted in compassion and community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were resilience, vision, and a commitment to customer service. Resilience is essential; you can’t quit when things get tough. I draw my strength from God and pray over my business daily, which keeps me grounded and focused. Vision is equally important. You need to know why you’re doing what you’re doing and where you want to go. For me, that vision included opening salons in different cities and reaching families across the country through the internet. Customer service has always been a cornerstone of my brand. When people come to us, they’re often in a moment of crisis, and it’s vital to treat them with compassion and care. My advice to those just starting out is to begin with a clear vision and nurture your leadership skills. Stay consistent with your marketing — blogging, social media, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram — whatever platforms help you connect with your audience. Building a brand takes dedication, but when you stay true to your purpose and treat people well, the impact is powerful.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

If I knew I only had a decade left, I would devote that time to being more present with my children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment and making up for the time I’ve spent building my business. I’ve created a successful brand with a meaningful mission, and I’d want to see that vision fully realized, bringing it to completion in a way that continues to help others long after I’m gone. Balancing family and work has always been a challenge, especially with five grown kids who remind me how much they miss me. My salons also need me, and I’m constantly pulled in both directions. But in that final decade, I’d focus on deepening those relationships and finishing the work I started with intention and heart.
