Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danae Marks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danae, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I do the things that inspire me: listening to music, reading, and watching others art. I have always believed that art inspires art, so when I am in creative spaces (art galleries, film festivals, etc.) I can feel my creativity flowing.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I always mention first I am a filmmaker, because I can wear so many hats in the film world ranging from directing, writing, producing, and various crew positions. My favorite aspects of filmmaking is watching the vision of everything come together, ever since I was a kid watching the BTS of movies on DVD, I have fell in love with the process of filmmaking. Getting to now lead projects I get to have a front view seat of some of favorite aspects of filmmaking. One of my biggest goals is to create a community, by bringing in films that will spark conversations and bring people together. An event that I will be apart of and presenting one of my short films this December is Atlanta Auteur Film Festival, this festival is a great opportunity for creatives to come together!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three best skills I have for my journey are my people skills, open mind, and problem solving. If you have those qualities you will make your job (whatever it is on set) easier for yourself and the rest of the crew. If you are an up and coming filmmaker I would suggest to hone in on their people skills, people love to work with others that they feel understand them and get along with. I would suggest to learn how to active listen, when people feel they are being listened to they will follow you!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents gave me the gift of faith. Through them I always believed that through any obstacles I may encounter, I will preserve and achieve my dreams. Ever since I was a child, whatever I said I wanted to do my parents did everything they could to make my dreams happen. Through them I got my first camcorder where I made my first short film at 9 years old.
