Meet Samantha Villegas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Villegas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Samantha, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Hope. I give myself small realistic goals, of course still keeping my bigger goals and dreams as my ultimate GOAL. I think achieving the smaller goals gives me that drive, motivation, and optimism that I need to take on the next big thing gracefully leading me onto my dreams.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Well. Im Sam, CEO of Beauty by Sam. My business focuses on all things beauty from facials, full body waxing, and glam. As we talked about before the beauty industry was always calling me, even when I was a kid watching my mom do her makeup. Though I knew makeup and beauty was my calling it wasn’t my initial career choice. Beauty or makeup wasn’t looked at as a “real career” so under that pressure, I was going to become a registered nurse. I did some schooling but very quickly I knew that’s not where I was suppose to be.
Fast forward I took a leap of faith and decided to go back to school, but this time I was getting my estheticians license. Now I get to make people feel the best version of themselves. I now have my own spa space, actively taking clients for all things beauty; facials, face and body waxing, and glam.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

A major key was practicing and perfecting my craft. It’s important to not get comfortable and always being open to further your education especially in this evolving industry. Second, being comfortable stepping into that professional role, meaning your expertise and professional opinion matter. This is something that you’ll put into practice when clients come in unsure of their needs, wants, or concerns, you can confidently lead your clients into the right direction. Lastly but most importantly, putting yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to network with other professionals and ask questions. Asking questions goes for everything, your clients, and peer’s, it’s almost like that saying “closed mouths don’t get fed” you never know, that one question that you’re not asking can be the answer to everything.
My journey has been interesting and these have been the main factors that have worked wonderfully for me since I started practicing them, in the beginning it was trial and error. The advice I give is to listen and be patient not just with clients but the journey in general because it’s a long one. It’s important to listen to the clients and let them advocate for themselves, and from there you can give your clients what’s best for them in your expertise. As you go each client will teach you something, it can be in the smallest or biggest way but they always do.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

This is a great question, there isn’t one thing that I can point out and say “this is the one!”. My parents have sacrificed everything not just for myself but for my siblings. Their love and support has been continuous and unconditional since the beginning of my career. The support from my parents has also been a blessing and motivation. They’re the reason I push so hard to do what I do. They’re so great that if I ask them to paint the sky red for me they will, I don’t know how but I can count on it being done.
