We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lynly Ehrlich a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynly, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. She opened up an agency around 35 years ago and built it from the ground up. I watched her take this agency from absolutely nothing to one of the best in South Carolina. She has also spearheaded the American talent showcase, which brings together talent and representation. And she’s always been an incredible inspiration to me because I saw the long hours that she put into it and the passion that she had for it. She’s been her entire career with one single goal in mind, and that was to help other people. I have to thank her for being a huge part of the person that I have become.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Casting Producer who works mainly on reality TV shows, podcasts, and game shows. In my spare time, I make movie-themed candles to relieve any kind of pressure and have a creative element. I’m currently working on a show called the 1% Club, but I also cast war shows like American Idol, 25 Words or Less, and the upcoming What’s in the Box Game. There’s literally nothing better than calling someone and letting them know that they’ve made it onto the show. That’s why I got into this field. I love helping someone take the first steps toward their dreams.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In my field of work, you cannot be shy. There isn’t a stranger in the world to me. You have to be able to spot Talent in everyday activities and not be afraid to approach someone and start a conversation. And as far as advice goes for anyone who chooses to pursue a career as a Casting Producer, know that you always have to be Casting. If you go to the grocery store and the checkout person has a great personality, give them your card. You never know, they could be the next big thing. So I would say the three qualities or skills would definitely 1) be the ability to talk to anyone. 2) the ability to see something in someone that other people might overlook. 3) understanding that this business is not easy because you do get attached to certain people for certain shows, and they may not work out for one reason or another. And that’s hard, having to say no. – And just know above it all – you have to be able to work with a team,

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I would do exactly what I am doing now. We never know how much time we’re given on this planet, and so I’m going to keep trying to help improve other people’s lives like I have in the past. Nothing would change.
