Meet Justin Lee

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Justin Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Justin , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose with EARCOUSTIC through a very personal moment helping a friend named Kenny.
Kenny had mild hearing loss that made it hard for him to fully engage in conversations, social gatherings, and even simple moments like listening to music or hearing the world around him. Traditional hearing aids were expensive, uncomfortable, and sometimes more than what he actually needed. Seeing his frustration really stuck with me, it made me realize how many people were quietly struggling with hearing challenges but didn’t have an accessible, natural solution.

As an engineer, I started experimenting with purely acoustic designs; no batteries, no electronics, just shaping and channeling sound the way nature already does. When Kenny tried one of the first EARCOUSTIC prototypes, I’ll never forget the look on his face when he said, “I can hear that clearly.” That moment made it all real.

It wasn’t just about inventing a new type of headphone, it became about restoring connection, dignity, and confidence to people who often go unnoticed in the conversation around hearing health. Helping Kenny helped me discover that my purpose isn’t just to build technology, it’s to create something that helps people hear life again, naturally and affordably.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At Quantum Senses, we developed EARCOUSTIC, a first-of-its-kind non-electric, acoustic amplification headphone designed for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss. What makes EARCOUSTIC truly special is that it works entirely through acoustic physics, no batteries, no charging, no electronics, just clean, natural sound. Our goal is simple: to make hearing support more accessible, comfortable, and empowering for everyone who needs a little extra help hearing the world around them.

What excites me most is seeing how a simple, elegant design can make such a big difference. When someone tries EARCOUSTIC for the first time and realizes they can hear conversations, music, or nature more clearly, that’s the moment everything connects. It’s not just about sound; it’s about restoring confidence, connection, and independence.

EARCOUSTIC was born out of empathy and engineering. I originally created it to help a friend named Kenny, who struggled with mild hearing loss but didn’t want to wear hearing aids. That personal mission evolved into a broader purpose: to provide a natural, affordable solution for millions of people who fall between normal hearing and the need for a medical device.
Right now, we’re expanding our reach through collaborations with organizations that serve seniors, children, and individuals with special needs. We’re also planning community demonstrations and partnerships with health departments and wellness programs across Maryland to help more people experience EARCOUSTIC firsthand.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been curiosity, resilience, and empathy.

Curiosity is what started everything. I’ve always been fascinated by how things work, especially how sound travels and how design can shape human experience. That curiosity drove me to experiment, ask questions, and explore unconventional ideas like creating a headphone that amplifies sound without electronics. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say: stay endlessly curious. Don’t just look for answers, look for better questions. That mindset opens doors you never knew existed.

Resilience has been essential. Entrepreneurship and innovation come with challenges, prototypes that don’t work, funding hurdles, and moments of uncertainty. The key is to stay steady, adapt, and keep moving forward even when things don’t go as planned. My advice: treat setbacks as part of the process, not the end of it. Each obstacle teaches you something that makes your vision stronger.

Empathy is the foundation of EARCOUSTIC. The entire idea came from helping a friend who struggled with hearing loss, and that personal connection shaped everything. Understanding the human side of your work the people you’re building for gives meaning to the effort. If you can stay connected to the why behind what you do, it becomes much easier to navigate the how.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely, collaboration is at the heart of what we’re building with EARCOUSTIC. We’re always looking to partner with individuals and organizations who share our commitment to accessibility, wellness, and innovation in hearing health.
Right now, we’re especially interested in connecting with:

Community and health organizations that support seniors, children, and individuals with special needs who experience mild to moderate hearing loss.

Public health departments, school systems, and assistive technology programs looking to expand affordable hearing solutions.

Distributors, retailers, and nonprofits focused on wellness, aging, or inclusion who want to help bring EARCOUSTIC to the people who need it most.

We believe real impact happens through partnership, whether that’s co-hosting community demonstrations, launching pilot programs, or developing new research and outreach initiatives.

Anyone interested in collaborating can reach out directly at [email protected] or visit www.theearcoustic.com to learn more. We’d love to explore how EARCOUSTIC can support your mission while helping more people hear clearly, naturally, and confidently.
